Questioning a buy

Would it be worth buying a used 370z that comers with mods? Like exhaust. Tune. Gen 3 intake. Pulleys. HFCs. Or would it cause soon ? 20 k miles

I think he meant to say

"Would it be worth buying a used 370z that comes with mods? These mods include exhaust, tune, gen 3 intake, pulleys, and hfc. Or would these mods cause problems soon, because the car has 20k miles on it already. "

Really, the person you buy it from would matter more to me. I would rather buy a car from some OCD freak like myself who does tasteful mods than from someone who keeps the car stock and doesn't care about it and bounces off the rev-limiter doing doughnuts in the parkinglot.

Is this guy drunk?

Edit: Sorry I had the tab open from a couple of hours ago. Way late to this one. :o

Yeah, with a modded car it's all about the seller. Find out who did the work (what shop, or the owner themselves), what the goal was, get a good look at the car. Try to figure out if the car's been abused (but that's just standard advice for any used car).

zguynate 03-15-2012 09:17 AM

Haha. This thread is funny. It really depends on what you want. If you want mods already on the car that's one thing. However my main concern would be how the car was driven and maintained. Just because a car is modded doesn't mean that it was abused, but you never know.

The Z is a durable car and it can take a beating, but I understand your hesitation when buying a used car. I agree with what others have said, its all about the owner. Take a good look at the car inside and out, and if you see the car is in excellent condition, he was a good owner. Of course he beat on the car every now and then(who wouldn't?) but if he cares enough to take good care of it's looks then there's a good chance he took care of the engine and tranny too.

If the mods are what you would do anyway, you would be better off buying it with the mods and if it's tuned and dyno'd, you'll know the actual power gains. If the owner also has the original items and you can get them, then you can revert back too.
