Re-tirement For My Z

I'm thinking about re-tiring my Z---replacing the stock tires on my base model with a set that will decrease the road noise I'm suffering with. I only drive in dry weather and am not concerned about performance, etc. What tires are the best bet for highest priority on a less noisy ride? I read about Goodyear Comfort Treads but I don't think they come in our size.
By coincidence, I'm also retiring myself and look forward to more Z time this summer.

continental DW's are quiet and comfy. :) congrats on your retirement.

Thanks for your suggestion and your good wishes.

ask 5 guys get 5 different answers... i went with hankook v12's
when it was time to change... way better then the bridgestones for road noise.
and maybe a tad better ride. price wasn't bad either

PapoZalsa 03-10-2012 08:24 PM

When is time I'm going to go up on my 19s, a little bit beefier. Any suggestions?

kenchan 03-10-2012 08:27 PM

Beefier... Re11's. Stock size either DW, pilot Supersports for me. Bridgestones are great, but too heavy and has memory (easy to flatspot).

370ZilverZ 03-10-2012 08:34 PM

My:twocents: for what it's worth. Dynamat the hatch area was enough to tame the road noise for me. Alot cheaper than a new set of tires too. When it's time for tires, I'm leaning towards Continental DW's from the research I have done on the forum and the tire shop web sites.

svt to 370z 03-10-2012 10:11 PM

hankook v12's
hands down the best most comfortable quitest tires i have even had. and i'v had just about all of them on my various cars.

cossie1600 03-10-2012 10:44 PM

do not buy RE11 if you hate road noise. they are quieter than oem, but they are still loud

IDZRVIT 03-11-2012 07:45 AM

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. You will not be disappointed.

Agreed. I went with these and they are much quieter than stock.

mhcoss 03-11-2012 01:48 PM

Dude I like headline haha

EazyD 03-11-2012 02:28 PM

how do these all compare for grippiness?

LMBmikeZ 03-11-2012 03:36 PM

Let's hear some more suggestions!

Pilot Super Sports

RiCharlie 03-11-2012 06:15 PM

Buy from a company that lets you change them if you dont like what you first pick..that is my best advice..

Do you know what brands or retailers offer such a return privilege?

lpsscc 03-11-2012 09:41 PM

Conti Extreme and Yoko S-Drive have been good to me.

Guess I will have to try the Mich Pilot Sport though!

roplusbee 03-11-2012 09:55 PM

I will second the Hankook V12 for quiet and decent performance. The best part is price. They don't perform as well as the Yokohamas IMHO, but they are much cheaper, last longer, and are much quieter!

ZeeingAround 03-12-2012 08:37 AM

Conti DW.

flashburn 03-12-2012 10:02 AM

Also going to say Continental DW's. I ran Hankook's before that, but I didn't find the ride quality to be all that great, and the grip wasn't very good either. The DW's are way better, and they seem like they are going to last a lot longer.

Yes I went to Tire Rack and a local place called Tire Pros..and they both said if you dont like what you buy you can exchange them for another pair..did not say how many times you could do this but if you make a mistake at least you get one more pick and maybe more..

:iagree: Quiet, fairly comfortable, and they have a pretty silly amount of grip.

Toyo T1S very similar to a PS2 at a portion of the price of PS2's or PSS's

Quieter then the bridgestone's and tons of grip, havnt noticed any flat spotting, my hankook V12's would flatspot in the garage in a heart beat...

In comparison the the hankooks the hankooks felt very soft on the sidewall you could push it through a corner but the proper sensation wasnt there for me as it is on the t1s the T1S really reminds me of my PS2's.

Mr. Mustang is Master if Understatement. You have to work very hard to make the PSS break traction and that's a afact.

IDZRVIT 03-13-2012 07:08 AM

I wouldn't buy a cheap tire such as Hankooks. Why? You get what you pay for and that seems to hold true from some of the comments posted in here. Anyway, you bought a nice performance sports car so why not give it some good quality rubber at replacement time? Michelin ftw.

In 2nd gear, WOT coming out of tighter corners at Spring Mountain the back end of the Z06's stayed planted. The PS2 line is the best their is for a performance oriented street tire imo.

Everything I've seen indicates the PSS is quicker than the PS2.

PSS is not in ZP format, so could not be run on the 'vette "technically".

If/when I get new tires for the Z, it will be the newer PSS like you mention, though.
