2011 Chevrolet Camaro SLP ZL1 |MotorWeek Reading a little at the above webpage... You can actually get it for $80K on top of a base of $31K or $111K. No way would I buy a ZL1 unless I was going for investment and never drive it. It will go up in price in 10 years if not driven. At $56K I'd probably buy one. Once I understood the total price I said to myself ... self, if your going to spend that type of dough might as well get a Corvette ZR1 which is a tad faster and should out handle a Camaro without houndstooth interior .... AND it's a Vette. No matter how you look at it on the street a Vette trumphs a Camaro. Even when I pull up next to a brand new Camaro in my C5 Vette the guy looks the other way and it's not because he doesn't think the Vette is worthy. I keep thinking I'd like a Grand Sport (for the removable top) and install a procharger. Then I think about how much I like my C5's looks and the fact that I really don't need 600+HP for the street. I do have a '67 Camaro for the track that has over 650HP. At 500HP I pulled 10.98 and the tune wasn't perfect. Just about ready to put it back on the track again. Total investment ~23K Total hours ~200 of build / rebuilding time. I can hardly wait to get it on the track again. Then, I'll be looking for a awesome paint job for the fun of it. However, most people seem to like her just the way she is ... raw and mean looking: Here she is at the track in 450HP prior to first motor rebuild: The guys (note the second Camaro RS to the right - In process back to stock): and the new 3rd motor: Point is I love Camaros.... Just not worth $111K Edit: Guess I should show you guys the Vette: Last edited by Mecinoid; 03-15-2012 at 07:36 PM. |

The 2013 GT500 is where it's at. Ford has not pulled any punches and really supports the after market guy that wants go fast goodies.
I want one of these new GT500s big time...gonna have to start making payments to my savings account. Can't give up my Challenger....so gonna have two hot rods in the garage. |

because before Ford announced the price, all the car websites had predicted that it would cost around $65k, more than the ZL1. I thought so too because on paper, it's a much more powerful car and usually, a more powerful car would cost more.

I kept the faith that the GT500 would come in around the ZL1's price range.
Even though I wish it was $50k I'm willing to pay $55k and even $58k for the SVT package.

With the SVT package both the mustang and ZL1 have magnetic suspensions. The only difference is that the ZL1 has 3 selectable setting and the mustang has 2.
And yes we've gone over the IRS vs the SRA. All things being equal the IRS is a more desirable suspension, but all things aren't equal. The ZL1 has a significant weight disadvantage, less power and lower top speed. What are muscle cars built for? The quarter mile- advantage GT500. On the track I bet they will be close. Just because on paper the IRS is a better suspension doesn't mean the the camaro still doesn't need to slow way down because of its weight. The same weight that will effect the camaro's acceleration out of the turns.

I love how wherever you go you can never get away from the Ford vs. Chevy debates. If you gave me the keys to either car I'd drive it like I stole it. I don't give a damn about what anyone else thought was the better of the two.
