Help? Rust...

Okay, so i was washing my car and I spotted this. I took it to the dealership and they said they cant do anything under warranty (which i expected). So how should i go about getting the rust removed?

800 grit wet sand, touchup primer, touchup paint.

Wait... just kidding.

That blows man... maybe take it to a body shop and see what they can recommend?

I had a couple of little chips in my paint that were rusting as well that I was able fix myself. I bought some rust dissolved and using a super fine brush applied it directly to the chip without getting it on the paint. Then I rinsed it off and after it dried I applied some touch up paint. Looks a ton better and now I'm not paranoid that my fenders are going to rust through and bubble my paint. I used Dr colorchip because I had a bunch of road rash to take care of as well, but since yours is in a pretty inconspicuous place any touch up paint should do. Good luck.

So this doesn't fall under corrosion protection?

The warranty only covers "rust through" panels

What part is this?

Looks like a door jam. I would say it's an easy fix. Some touch up paint might be needed.

FYI, where the quarter panel and door panel meet...

kenchan 03-10-2012 06:36 PM

you get that when someone sandwiches the seat belt buckle while closing the door.

Or bangs the door into a concrete curb or a parking post.

That's an easy fix and isn't something you would expect Nissan to warranty.

curiously enough, if it were to rust through (perforate), Nissan would be obligated to cover it.
