I put in a Viper 5901. Couldn't be happier with it. It's nice to know when somebody backs into your car in a parking lot or smashes out a window. The factory alarm is not much of an alarm at all.

(1)
If: They want some stuffs in your car
Then: They smash the window and take it

(2)
If: You have an alarm
Then: They disconnect it in 20 secs and steal it.

(3)
If: You have a sophisticate alarm
Then: They tow it

(4)
If: You have a sophisticate alarm and handbrake on
Then: They bring a flat-bed tow truck

(5)
If: You are completely freaked out right now
Then: Pray

(6)
If: You don't want to Pray
Then: Don't own a car

cheers

Locking lugs can be taken off very easily without the key... if you're worried about the wheels, buy an alarm with a tilt sensor. I've taken off locking lugs after losing the key and it takes just seconds.

you can install an aftermarket tilt sensor relatively easily to the STOCK alarm.

as for locking lugs, checkout gorilla's spinning collar locks. they work like a charm!

also as it is with all 2way systems eveything cuts down on range.. window tint, block building, metal buildings, other cars etc... so a lot of systems will advertise 2miles or 1 mile of range.. what they fail to tell you is that is in a wide open field with nothing blocking the signal...

now if you paid the extra and got the smartstart system with your viper alarm then ur fine as long as you have cell service you will know whats going on.. but again try to get back to your car before there gone while ur in the mall.. doubt that u can make it in time...
Of course, but it's an extra step. Also the flashing blue light might deter some thieves, who knows. I don't have anything but a radar in my car for them to steal.

Stand up at its best!

I concur that the Z is hard to steal. If it is, they're going to tow it. Turn your wheel in so they can't easily pull it out of the spot you're in.

I am not sure if it really works or not, but I have been buying LoJack with my cars in the recent years. It does give me a discount on my insurance, so I guess it is at least worth that much.

Maybe it just gives me warm feelings imagining that someday some a$$hat will steal my car and either incinerate himself in a fiery wreck or being shot in his stupid face at the conclusion of a police chase...

Awesome Feed back i really appreciate the info from everyone. i think ill take all the advise and stay clear of the "shady areas" lol and save the money and not get an additional system and probably just get some new lug locks , the gorilla ones look legit ,as my boy said the same thing the ones from the factory are pretty essly taken off thatll make me sleep alil easier at night seeing how i just found out each wheel is about $1000 to replace ..

eh...the sport rays are more like $800, but it's not something you want to have to dig deep for because of some a$$hat.

After having my stereo stolen this past week out of mine i will be doing the following. Instead of 20% tint on windows it will now be much darker and illegal.

I will be adding an additional alarm.

Try avoid parking the z anywhere in a city especially at night. Soon i will finally buy a 3-4k civic beater so this hopefully doesnt happen again.

I think someone followed my z home from shopping and later that night good ole smash n grab... ill never know. 2k is estimate from progressive and dec 10th is finish expected date. With a 500 deductible its certainly awesome they are replacing everything since i had my receipts when i purchased the stereo upgrades...
