Thinking of selling...
 

As many of you may know, I got my pre-order 370 back in January, and it has been a fabulous 5 months with the car. It really is a blast in every way and I have no issues with the car whatsoever.

An opportunity has arisen however, that may be difficult for me to pass up. There are a few cars that I always have my eyes on for a chance to pick up, and this is one of them.

A beautifully kept MKIV Supra Turbo 6spd has recently come across my radar, and it has peaked my curiosity to say the least. Finding them in good condition with relatively low miles and un-molested is an increasingly rare occurrence.

Unfortunately, my better-half will not allow two less-than-practical sports cars.

I have a feeling the Supra will retain it's value far better over time than the 370 will (much as it has over the past 15 years), and the car has been a bit of a dream for me since I was a wee boy.

I understand I would be giving up a brand new car, under warranty for a nearly 15 year old car, which makes me a bit nervous to be honest.

Anything I should be aware of or consider?

I don't know how you use your Z....If it's a weekend toy then you should probably pursue your dream. If it's a daily driver, I'd seriously reconsider. Putting a pristine classic into daily service that you wish to preserve will be hard on the nerves AND the car. I predict you'd soon wish to relegate it to weekend duty which would require the purchase of another car for daily service... You should also go drive the Supra...Sometimes our Dreams/expectations are way out of proportion with reality. An old car is STILL an old car. BTDT....Just some thoughts on the idea..

Thanks much for the thoughts, very relevant points. We have a couple other vehicles at our disposal so the 370 is not my daily driver, though I often find myself searching for excuses to take it to work. If I pull the trigger on the Supra it will be relegated to weekend duties and occasional weekly use.

The Supra has around 65k original miles.

Previously, I used to use my S13 as my daily driver; well yeah... used car is a used car. It had a low mileage SR20, but the chasis being as old as it was constantly needing parts replaced. Made it crazy difficult to depend on it.

Getting up in the morning and knowing my car will start and run every morning... :rolleyes: :driving:

The point is irrelevant regardless as I use public transportation to get to my office most days.

This will be kept as a weekend toy at best, much as my 370 is at the moment.

You only live once. If you have wanted one since you were a kid I'd buy the Supra. If you don't like it you can probably resell it for close to what you paid for it. You will take a serious bath on the Z though.

Hey if you've got the money (and more importantly, the stomach to lose a lot of it...) by all means go get it. The Supra is an amazing piece of engineering.

Good point, I would be taking a bit of a hit on the Z, though I would be regardless of what I choose to do. I am not upside down on the Z so I will keep positive about it.

When I got to a point in life that I could seriously consider buying a Supra I was a bit turned off by it due to all the rice movies glorifying it as the king ricer. Now that all that has hopefully blown over I wouldn't be embarrassed to drive one :tup:

Money is not the issue, I am more concerned with being as entertained with the Supra as I am with the Z, and given my attachment to the car I don't want to make a blind decision that I may regret down the line, as I have never spent much time with a Supra.

I will be traveling to see the car this weekend so hopefully that will give me a better idea.

The Supra tuned with a T-88 is just re-damn-diculous. Who cares if it has 65K on it. Depending on price that they are asking........you could easily O/H the Supra and be spending comparably the same end cost. (Depending on which 370 you bought) Keep in mind, your probably gonna take it up the :icon23: when selling the Z. Every mile you increase on the odometer/is an equivalent decrease in resale value......sadly enough.

Im a Nissan guy, but you gotta pursue your dreams bro. Plus your wife is giving you a thumbs up.......are you serious? Go for the Supra.

My buddy had one in Yokohama, Japan where I lived. Kept the tuning within limits. Only 585hp to the wheels. BLAST to drive. I like feeling the azz break loose when you romp on it. I never really could feel that since I only had GT-R's. 4wd just wont slide out from under you. Wasnt gonna pull my fuses to make it RWD only and jack the cpu system. None the less I loved it when I tooled around in his Supra. You wont be disappointed at all. As far as the ricer movie analogy.........They have utilized the Supra, Skyline,RX-7 and Mitsubishi......so who cares. I promise you, get the Supra, make it look nice(minus the rediculous sticker tuning that some people do) and nobody will even think of you as driving a ricer movie race car.

Contrary to some peoples belief, each sticker added does not increase HP by 5.

Very true, the car I am interested in is BPU+ putting out ~420whp, stock ct28 snails.

I am not really loyal to any brand, so I don't mind the shift, I have owned quite a few Toyota's and Nissan's.

My Z is a base with the sports package in 6MT with a few small options (MSRP just shy of $34k), it has under 4k miles. I would probably list at $29k and go from there.
