I'm wondering if the .2 liters of displacement caused too much heat to be produced by the engine (compared to the VQ35DE/HR)? I've read that the Variable Valve Event and Lift (VVEL) intake system could be responsible for this... If so, why didn't they take time to get it right the first time & install a simple oil cooler like the one on 2012 models (?).. What are you comparing the interior of the 370z to? Most people will look at the previous generation Z and say that the 370 has a very nice interior. The 350z was like a matchbox car interior; although, everything fit well like the seats, steering wheel, shifter, etc. |

The problem with the oil cooler on the 2012 models is that it is still not enough for track use so you still end up paying for aftermarket oil cooler if you are going to track the car. Not sure what happened with OP's car since I drove my 09 to El Paso and back from Dallas during a summer with 100+ degree temperatures and the car barely got to 230 regular driving.

I think the interior is quite nice and most people seem to agree compared to other performance cars ie. vette, evo, 350z etc. As for limp mode, yeah, it's crappy, but almost everyone who does some research on the car before buying it knows about it already at this point so you factor that in beforehand. As for the oil change, there's no way they used esther oil if they charged you a normal oil change price or if it was a free initial oil change.

The main thing to be concerned with is really the temperature that oil actually starts to degrade or lose its lubrication and protection qualities. If you look up the specs on most oils the manufacturer will list them or you can call them for technical info on the oil you use.
Oil is actually a very good conductor of heat and will usually be a higher temp than your engines water coolant. I called Mobile 1 tech line and they say normal engine oil starts to break down and lose its protection qualities and life as low as 140 F and synthetic oils will handle up to 220-250 F max. So if your engine oil is getting much hotter than your water temperature you probably want to install a bigger oil cooler to reduce the operating temperature of the engine. One other simple cheap option would be to installer the lowest temperature thermostat possible or remove it completely, this would allow the engine to run a lot cooler, also turning on your heater will help to reduce engine temperture slightly. If you're just driving it on the street and not especially aggressively, you should be okay unless you're in a hot climate and stuck in bad traffic a lot.

Which around here in El Paso could be quite often depending on where you live.

Wasn't referring to you specifically, just in general regarding this thread.

It's basically the same setup MODSHACK put together only they packaged it all up for you kit. Lots of threads on here about oil coolers. If you don't want "cheap" you could go with the Stillen one for around 450.00 which has a high quality SETRAB cooler but no thermostatic adapter which kinda sucks, but it does come with a ready to use mount unlike the DIY kit. ![]() ![]() ever since it was installed, oil temps never exceeded 220°. regardless of temperature / traffic / aggressive driving ![]()
