Those games are nothing like actually driving a car. I wreck the damn thing every 10 feet playing those, even with the steering wheel and all that accessory stuff like the shifter and all. You get no actual feedback from the game. So if you are good in the game, you might be total fail in the real world. Vice versa. It's like playing guitar on guitar hero. No carry over.

OP...Harrisburg...is that Pennsylvania? You have snow? The best way to learn is to take your car out in a vacant parking lot with an inch or two of snow. You'll learn quick about turning into a spin. That's what my Dad did to me 40 years ago.
