Just a generic strap wrench. I bought it at Canadian Tire, it's "mastercraft", really just a rebranded made in China tool. It came as a two pack, one small and one large. I started with the small one but ended up using the large one because I needed the leverage. I swear the factory used a whole tube of thread lock to secure my shift knob.

I'll give it a go in the summer and just buy a random strap wrench from local parts store.

ratchet strap + microfiber wrapped around knob = stock knob taken cleanly off.
team voodoo pearl shift knob sits quite a bit lower which makes it feel like a short shift without swapping any real hardware. without that zee toyz shift collar it sits another 1/2" lower. one of the bettwer investments i've made on the car. the shorter, metal shift knob definately makes for a more positive feel when shifting thru the gears. i love it

I find the right knob is difficult to find. i believe when it comes to that it becomes very personal. To how you shift and drive and what feels the best to you. Everyone can give you there opinion but only you can decide what fits you.
On my car i have the Tommy kaira hebi bebi! i like it nice round shape and heavy ! i hope this helps! |

Yummm! The Hebi is such a sweet knob, but pricey as anything!

That knob threads in pretty far, so it kinda feels like it shortens the throw of the shifter just a bit. As many have said our shifter throw is pretty short already. IMO this makes it perfect.

Thanks to everyone's advice, I went with the JDM Password stainless shift knob with a titanium base... It looks great (matches the interior silver accents in the Z perfectly), improves the shift feel dramatically (because it is heavy, shorter than stock, and fits in the palm perfectly) and the install took about 15 minutes (thanks to all the advice on this forum). I am very satisfied with the result!
Best mod ever for under 60 bucks.
