Default Who has the lightest 370z?

Hi guys. I am wondering who has the lightest Z car here?

I test drove a 370z last month and really liked it. As a package I think it's a killer car. Right now I am driving a miata which is a lot of fun, but lacking in power. I've already started the ball rolling to turbo it. But I'm spending a ton of money to build a not so reliable car. $2k for suspension, $2k bbk, $5k turbo kit/tune, $2k wider wheels/rubber, $2k clutch etc.

Then I got thinking, why not just buy a 370z and strip it, spend all that money on lightweight parts rather than turning my miata into a grenade? So what do you guys think, with $11 grand in aftermarket to work with, could I shave a 370Z down about 2800lbs? I'm thinking stripped interior, race seats, lightweight wheels, and carbon goodies.

There are a few members on the forum who use their Z as dedicated Track cars. I suppose following them would give you the best idea of what's obtainable.

TravisJB comes to mind first TravisJB Journal

Other than that...I'd probably stick with the Miata build rather than stripping down a Z. I've looked into Miata's before and I don't see how those parts are costing so much...

in 2012 the 370Z's weight and dimension is not a huge deal.

just get the Z and enjoy it.

What is your overall goal? Just curious. Are you building a track car?

Sub-3000 is tough in the 370z unless you are ready to remove some features like AC, strip the car and remove certain parts or replace with dry carbon fiber.
Now, if this is a track only car then I say go for it. The Z is a fairly solid platform to build on but it will be more expensive than your Miata.

It's a track/summer car, but I don't plan to race it and don't want to cage it. I had no plans to turbo the 370 if I bought one, they are pretty quick out of the box and I think if I could get it under 3000 even, it would be enough for me. TravisJB's car looks sick, I can't find if he put that thing on a scale?

2800 lbs Z.. remove the doors and replace with custom carbon fiber sheets, remove all of the interior, no ac, remove radio, light wheels/tires, get rid of the hood, carbon fiber replacements for anything possible. replace any remaining glass with resin/plastic, no muffler, small battery, custom make smaller gas tank (10 gallons) That may get you close.

Still think you're better off turboing the Miata for what you're looking for. A worked Miata putting down 250-300 whp would be absolutely ridiculous from a performance standpoint...

Making the Z that light is going to make it pretty much a Track dependent car unless you like driving around in an empty shell and motor.

Check out flying miata they have pretty cheap parts that will get you to around the 250 hp range. even at 200 hp, the miata is a serious car.

Remove big V6. Maybe drop an I4 178hp engine from an Altima. Maybe you should try a diet or hit the gym, lose some weight there.
