Blind Spot

I've read and heard this is a problem when people are backing up. How about when your just looking to change lanes? or merge onto the highway?

Nick911sc 02-26-2012 09:11 PM

I've never once had a blind spot problem when changing lanes or anything with my Z... If your mirrors are set up properly you should essentially have no blind spots.

TerribleONE 02-26-2012 09:12 PM

It's an issue with that as well... You just have to be aware of your surroundings and you'll be alright! It's worth the fun of driving it!

LakeShow 02-26-2012 09:13 PM

Blind spots are there. You must just adjust mirrors accordingly, basically pointed where the body of your car is not visible.

Trips 02-26-2012 09:13 PM

As for lane changing? Not a problem if you adjust your mirrors correctly.

Now backing? Yea definitely a little on the blind side but the new models do have a rear view camera to somewhat help.

You get a little used too it but not a big enough issue to stop you from enjoying it.

Yea i've read that is what you need to do. The question then becomes how do you back into a parking spot straight if you don't have the side of your car as a reference? I guess you would just get used to it

Nick911sc 02-26-2012 09:29 PM

If you lean towards the side you're trying to see the side of your car will come back into view for reference. Or, you can just adjust the mirror back slightly when you're backing in. But honestly, once you get used to the mirrors being adjusted out you'll understand where your car is in reference to other cars you're backing in next to.

mantella87 02-26-2012 09:41 PM

Just follow your gut when you're backing up in the Z.

Bucketlist2012 02-26-2012 09:48 PM

I have, among all the older z's, a 300ZX that had blind spots until you were driving and at speed..

The Same with my 350Z , and now the 370Z... You just have to have your mirrors right, and pay attention like the others said...

EazyD 02-26-2012 09:50 PM

I made an investment in an aftermarket back-up camera. Saves me from getting some gray hairs/not hitting children with the Z.

Backing out of a space isn't a blind spot problem, you can be in a convertible and not be able to see if you have cars parked next to you. The blind spots in this car for driving are like any other coupe you must set your mirrors and turn your head, your not driving a sedan.

edub370 02-27-2012 09:27 AM

i use my right foot to eliminate blind spots when changing lines. probably 9 out of 10 times a will accel a little to make sure that anything in my blind spot i could have missed isn't an issue. might sound dumb... but o well

just punch gas. then no hitting.

go for a test drive.

Nick911sc 02-27-2012 09:40 AM

You'll crash the car from turning off VDC before you hit someone in your blind spot.

kenchan 02-27-2012 09:41 AM

with CS, no blind spot. :icon17:

THIS... and I have a backup cam with the runway lanes which help a lot.. I put my mirror in a down position so I can see 50% ground and 50% air where people walk. That way I can see small and large objects easily. Back up slowly and use all 3 mirrors while backing up. The cam is just reassurance that nothing small is behind the car or its perripheral. So this method would work without the camera.

Its really not a problem when you get in the habit.

QFT. There are definitely more people who have done that.

I do take more time backing up but I've gotten used to being more careful...as for changing lanes... I try to always change lanes just after passing someone, takes the guess work out of it. :driving:

TheGreatOne 02-27-2012 11:19 AM

I remember the first time getting in and looking back going "WTF" because i had read about the poor rear visibility and and was like..they weren't kidding lol.

Mirror adjustments help a lot...I have had a few here or there where I could have sworn no one was in my blindspot but someone was...I agree with someone above...just speed up then pass lol

thetaste 02-27-2012 11:23 AM

Mirror adjustments and I have the passenger seat moved up a little to expose the 1/4 glass for extra visibility.

BlackZeda 02-27-2012 11:43 AM

My last 3 vehicles have been pickups (specifically Toyota Tacomas) which allow for a great amount of visibility. For me going to a Z I felt that the blind spots were terrible and even accidentally cut off a few cars the first couple of months driving. After a couple of years and proper rear view mirror setup I am pretty comfortable now even with the NISMO wing. I think I just needed to get used to it.

:iagree: Also the Nismo Wing makes the rearview mirror pretty useless.

sonic370 02-27-2012 08:36 PM

It can be a pain. i find my self always checking traffic in both rear views...
you would think that wouldn't be an issue since they are the size of f150's
it was like an after though slapped on at the last minute..........

vo2max99 02-28-2012 12:07 AM

Yeah I noticed the blind sport issue when I took one for a test drive. Too much focus on design vs. function. It's the same deal with the brakes as well unfortunately. Maybe you can get a blind sport warning device installed. For the brakes, some sort of cooling ducts would be good al though I'm not sure the after market has anything.

cc370z 02-28-2012 09:20 AM

I think of the Z as more of a point and shoot. Just pick the lane... and hit the gas :)

Gauge 02-28-2012 10:23 AM

Gas solves any blind spot :D

Also I just stay in the left lane ><

On a serious note, it's not such an issue on driver side as you can look back if you lean foward, the passenger side is the real issue though. I take long hard looks before I move over. Most of the time I'll pass a car and look back and make sure I see that car I passed before making the merge.
