People think I have my hi-beams on at night and give me the flash.
Does this happen to you too?
You are driving at night.. maybe coming over a hill.. and somebody in the opposite lane flashes their high beams at you.. but our headlights are only bright up until the cut-off mark. People get mad. I even had one guy pull over, get behind me, and turn his brights on like it was payback. I wanted to punch him. Tonight, someone flashed at me, but I had enough distance I could flash back and show them they're being an idiot. Stories? (photo by my friend)

First off that picture is absolutely insane!! Where is that, looks like a scary movie scene.
Anyways, are you running stock bulbs? That is weird because if anything the stock bulbs aren't that bright and even the high beams are fairly weak for a bi-xenon on the Z. My friends GTI xenons are super bright and his high beams are blinding and are stock.

Yes, my bulbs are stock. Maybe just a lot of people here on the backroads that aren't even used to HID lights. When I turn my brights on, it doesn't look like the bottom half gets brighter, just gets rid of the cut-off point basically.

Hmm, maybe your head lamps are not aimed correctly? I have never had this problem in my 370z and I usually find my lights cut off (when tailing someone) just below their window (let alone getting up high enough to get to the back mirror, etc...)

Yeah ive had it happen to me before I switched out my hids to a higher rating. I was going down to the drive in movies a while back and the spot is actually deep in the woods. The roads are always two lane roads up there, and while I was driving people switched on their high beams and flashed me as they came closer, and since my lights didnt change they thought I wasnt being courteous and turning my high beams down, so they turned them back on. Lol, it didn't bother me, but the guy behind me kept flashing his high beams at opposing traffic because they didn't turn them down. |

Never had this happen but I think out it about it all the times.. If you can try flashing high beams. That should make them feel like a dumba$$. But I doubt it.

Last night I was at the bar and my friend pulled in the opposing entrance when we showed up, he said "dude your headlights are like the sun man", said he couldn't see anything when I pulled in. I'll also add that I think this is one of the main reasons people get out of the left hand lane at night when I'm trying to

I have never been flashed but I've flashed other cars with HID's but they have yet to flash back, so am I right? Not sure actually.
The high beams on our cars are so bright, I often find it hard to drive due to the high reflection from yellow warning signs, i.e. "Slow to 15 MPH." I love your farm rental.

I never thought about the effects of lowering on headlights. Does visibility decrease significantly with a 1-1.5 inch drop?

Also, I know our lights are meant to cut off at people's windows, but if you go over a small hill or bump, it gets them in the eyes. Re: the farm house --- it's an awesome location...chickens and bunnies and stuff right outside our window... but it's a) super energy inefficient..no insulation on half the house, zero insulation on the roof... and b) all the floors are 100-year-old hardwood and are so creaky and echoey and that sucks too, no privacy.

RE: ^ good question- Excellent question. Sometimes I follow a car more closely, I feel my lights are hitting them less than if I back off.
