Well for example...

I am working the night shift at my place of gainful employment tonight. I look out my window and its snowing HARD. I see probably 3-4 inches of snow on the ground out there that i get to drive home in tomorrow morning. I know the Z can handle 3-4 inches of snow with winter tires but this storm is nothing compared to what we get sometimes. I guess i'm worried i'll get stranded at work when a blizzard blows in on me. Also how will I go skiing on my days off? I'm thinkin i might get the roof rack i'm seeing on the forums around here. People seem to think its blasphemous putting a roof rack on a sports car though.

Yea four wheel drive where its at. Although I am good with rear wheel. If I have good winter tires its not a problem. The issue is ground clearance

Edmonton does have short summer and long winter, and the winter is cold and lots of snows...

The Z, it can handle snow pretty good with a set of good snow tires, but yes, the ground clearance is going to be a problem with snow 5"+

I am not sure about the fitment for ski cos I drive a vert, hopefully someone can chip in.

If you have to take all those into consideration, how much space does the car have is a matter to you.

Don't worry about grocery shopping, the Z can handle it very very well.

You might have to think about the snow and fitment for ski, if you can fit the ski no problem, snow... unless you have snow storm all the time, otherwise driving Z on snow is not a big problem.

BTW, just asking, could you get a winter beater and leave the Z for summer?

cheers

Thanks for the reply. I can't afford a beater just yet. I think if I can get through 1-2 winters in the Z then I could easily afford some kind of beater 4wd truck. They plow the roads pretty well around here usually the main roads do not have accumulated snow. Its the residential ones you have to worry about. I think I can find a way to make skis work though

Yeah maybe getting a second cheaper car may solve your problem?

I think I probably will do that after I pay off the Z. (with my down payment i'll have her paid off in 18 months.) In the meantime I could jus tmake my girlfriend drive me around in her 03 honda civic when the roads get toooo bad

A used civic could cost as low as around $3000 or less, it could be quite old but if you have luck or know some mechanics, sometimes they can find you some good deal. My friend got a Mazda 323 for $2700, low kms.

If you can afford that, then store the Z through summer, terminate the insurance or take the minimum one. It could work out.

But if you can only have one car for now, as many of us here say, get a set of very good snow tires for Winter, you'll be fine. I used to drive the 350z the whole year around in Toronto, and sometimes we have one or two nasty snowstorms too.
