I didn't go through it once, I went through it twice... and I was way more flexible than you. The only thing I was sure of was auto sport. I had 3 different colors. Base or touring was up in the air pending on how a dealer deals. I personally feel navs have no place in sports cars so I didn't want one...
You would think my flexibility would have gotten me a Z fairly quick. Its an agonizing experience. And from experience I'm telling you... living in this deep south 5 state hellhole of car purchasing... ORDER! You will be so much happier.
I went all the way to the top of Nissan Corporate (USA) through a snake-maze of 800 numbers and found out that my dealership was being dead-honest. They cannot order the car, and noone in my area can, either. Either Nissan USA is "in on it", or Nissan just works VERY differently than any other car company I am used to.

I want NAV, because to me, the 370Z Touring...is a Touring car. No, not on the level than an Aston Martin is or something, but it's definitely more luxurious than many others. I kindof think of it as a 911 Lite.

Further, the NAV adds many other "cool" things other than Zagat restaurant review. Apparently, it adds an ungodly air of exclusivity!

What the hell, why are you trading in your Z06 for a 370Z? Seems like such a downgrade, in everything but interior quality.

I addressed this ad nauseum previously. Cliff-notes:

-Saving $500 a month in note/insurance to put toward property I am buying in a year.

-I am moving in less than a year and will probably make less and want to continue to save at the same rate.

-My time at Spring Mountain Motorsports taught me that unless I track my Z06, I will never scratch the potential it has to offer unless I do something stupid and beyond "normal" illegal.

-I realized I was paying for performance I will not use, while suffering with an interior that I will ALWAYS use. So instead, I will enjoy an interior I will always use, ans suffer performance that I will rarely use.

When looked at from a "mine is bigger!" standpoint, it's a poor decision. However, when viewed financially, as well as practically, regarding MY personal use for the car (cruising, spirited driving through twisties), it makes more sense by far. I wanted a supercar, I bought one, I owned it for a year, and I can check that off my bucket list.

I feel your pain, used to be that way in AR, now you just need an affidavit/bill of sale that you sold the other vehicle +/- 45 days from your new car purchase.... gives you more wiggle room.

surely you could wash that exact deal throgh a local dealer for a $500 processing fee?

That's what i did. My girl will be here on March 14,2012, ordered September 2,2011. Like unknown said, i thought my options would be easy to come by (Auto, sport package, splash guards, all the mats, illuminated kick plates) but the color I wanted has become rare too. Monterey Blue. I've noticed touring is what Nissan makes the most of (Common colors like brilliant silver, magnetic black, pearl white) , not specifically what i wanted for my 370Z. Nissan already doesn't produce a lot of 370Z's because of the impracticalness of them, and the economy (sports cars really are looked at as disposable income items every time there's an economic downturn). Trust me, just order and you can do this, the key is patience.

I physically CANNOT ORDER this car. The dealership tried 2 times already and got rejected or something. I confirmed this with Nissan USA customer service, and they pulled the dealership information and confirmed that yes, they were being straight with me. So unless the dealership has them on a pay-roll or something, yes, that is true. Nissan apparently is NOT! like Ford or GM where you can just waltz in and order something. I have trouble wrapping my mind around it, but everyone confirms that this is true.

Will see if they have something in their network, though. It's possible I guess.

How is the Z06 through the twisties vs the 370, in your opinion?

I only use my NAV for the music box function. The delta for your new Z without NAV plus $3500 fee is close to $5,000. No way on earth is the NAV worth that kind of money. Get one without and buy a used or aftermarket NAV.

$5K+ is quite a bit towards your property note.

Sounds like that's what you'll have to do. Nissan is very particular down there in Tochigi. I didn't hear that Nissan accepted my order until late November, they had my salesman call me an tell me that my girl was being built in December. Good luck, i'm sure you'll find the one you want.

I don't have a Z to compare to my Z06 yet.

Also, I don't really need a sports car--I want one. Same with the NAV.

I can sympathize. I just moved from a 2010 Grand Sport, which was my second Vette, into my 370Z roadster. Loved Vettes since I was old enough to say the word, but decided it was a good time to step back from the giant payments for a little while. Had a 350Z Roadster before the first Vette, so I knew they were a lot of fun too, plus, like you mentioned, the Z interior is pretty darn sweet. I was shocked how much nicer the 370 interior was, even over the 350 I had.

Like you, it was a struggle to find exactly what I wanted in this area. Original plan was for a new one, but then by pure luck, someone traded in a 2010 roadster that was EXACTLY what I wanted, and was still in great shape. Decided to let them eat the depreciation for a change!

Hope you track one down too!

Oh god... that's the color I wanted. That was the first thing I gave up on. A year without finding a Z that had auto sport and mblue. I gave up. Lol. Then I tried on the second car for 3 months... and gave up. I now actuqlly found three now that I have my GM. Lol
