getting my 370z home!!! HELP!!!
I recently purchased a 40th edition in Tennessee with 170miles and has been sitting in storage since the previous owner purchased it ... I want to drive it home to Louisiana ... It's about 700 miles , will the prolonged driving at the same rpm hurt the break- in period of the engine or is it alright? I need to know ASAP as I am leaving in 3 days to go get it ... Thanks...

You posted this in the wrong section, but just vary your speed and more importantly your RPM's. (I.E don't just put it on cruise control and sit back and relax) It'll be fine.

I'm sure you could find some back road detours that would allow you to vary your speed instead of taking the highway the whole way. Take a look at the route on Google Maps.
Have fun and enjoy the new car! Congrats!

I drove mine 300 miles home after I bought it back in my hometown. I think I left town with only 70 miles or so on the odometer. Just vary your RPM's and speed every now and then, and make a few extra pit stops along the way. Sounds like more of a pain driving than it really is when you do it.

Ask 100 people about breaking in a motor and you'll likely get 100 different ideas. I'll wager that if you bought a new car that had been test driven it would have been rode hard and put up wet. If any of you have taken a test drive in a new Z did you baby it or "let's see what this thing will do"? I usually vary my speed for the first 500 miles or so but don't baby the car otherwise. Bought my first brand new car in 1962 and have owned many more since then. I've never had an engine failure or problem.

This is what GM tells Corvette customers who do the Museum delivery. It has never been an issue. Vary the RPMs, and pull over now and then and enjoy that scenary/a meal and let things heat-cycle a few times. |
