New Z

Hello, I noticed consumer reports says that the 370z has a worse then average repair record. Is it worth the money to get extended repair coverage from the dealer?

A lot of people give me crap for it, but I usually get extended warranties so I'm covered for the entire time I plan on keeping the car. I like the peace of mind and you can usually get the dealer to cut you a deal if you ask nicely. That's where the dealers make most of their money, though.

It's a gamble. I've been unlucky with one too, yet I still think they're worth it. My RX-8 was plagued with the infamous flooding issue while I was deployed (so it may have been my friend's fault, since it had never happened to me). Long story short, it happened just days after my warranty had expired. The repairs ended up costing just as much as the warranty itself. As previously said, it's good peace of mind. You never know.

I sold cars for years and I still bought one. I had one for my M3 & 350z, it saved me a bunch of cash in the end. Although I do ONLY buy manufacture warranties. The rest are a big gamble.

I tend to avoid the third party warranties too. With a M3 I'd without a doubt get one, my friend's E46 has a SPENSIVE tuneup due soon and he'll be replacing the ti valve springs then... not cheap.

I was considering a E39 M5 when shopping for my Z and the maintenance costs are what deterred me from the M5, which was $10k cheaper asking price.

I bought it. On a first year car model, the bugs are not always worked out, so I sleep better with the coverage.

The steering wheel lock would pay for half, when it fails.

To each his own. Generally extended warranties are not worth it.

Went with the extended warranty from the dealer. Mostly for the peace of mind. I plan on keeping my Z for longer than original warranty.

I still have 8 months left on my factory warranty, and probably will not go for an extended warranty. While I plan to keep the Z for a long time, I have a poor track record of resisting impulses to buy new cars. So I'd probably be wasting my money on an extended warranty.
