In a dilemma (Z vs 2013 Genesis)

Hey guys, I hope you can help me out a bit here!

I am cross-shopping for my first sports car. As of now, I have my choices down to a 2012 370z and a 2013 Genesis Coupe 3.8! Whatever I get, I want to be happy with it for 4-5 years. Power-wise (on paper), the new Gen Coupe looks more powerful, but, nobody knows how it will stack up against a Z. I am ok with either a 2-seater or a 4-seater so that is not a deciding option. I just want a fun and nimble car that I will be happy with. I am not looking to start modding any time soon. What should I do? :(

Well look at it his way. The 1st gen Hyundai did 0-60 in like the mid 5 second range and was a 14 second 1/4 mile car. The 40 hp bump it got is not going to bring it down to the Z's times which are 0-60 under 5 seconds and 1/4 mile of mid to low 13's. I also think the Z looks 10 times better and I'm pretty sure will handle much better. Hyundai has done a great job with the car but in the end its Hyundai's first attempt at a RWD sports car and Nissan had been doing it for ummm going on 40+ years now.

No comparison in build quality and vehicle dynamics. Both Genesis models are excellent "first tries" at building up-market cars, but they still fall a little short.

The Gen Coupe is more of a competitor to the G coupe than the Z. Those two are much heavier and less nimble than a Z.

both are good cars, bang for buck the hyundai is a good deal. But the interior pieces are not as high quality as the Z. The Z looks like sex on wheels by comparison. I like the Hyundais, I thought abotu getting one as a daily driver, something like a sonata. Pretty neat cars.

I'd suggest test driving both and see whats right for you.

:iagree:

Personally I vote Z for all stated reasons above.

For me its just a deal breaker when I have to say I drive or own a Hyundia vs Nissan 370z. Just saying a Nissan 370z rings sports car. The Hyundia just doesn't ring sport anything to me. Sorry Hyundia sounds just not right in a sports car world. I know its a S. Korean car but Hyundia puts my mind in Calcutta India trying to get around a sacred cow setting in the road....... :tiphat:

Also look at after sales service. Anyone can sell you a car, but it's how you're treated after the sale that I find matters much more. The reputation of my local Hyundai dealer is enough reason for me to not even test drive one.

Something else for you to think about.

Simple. It is either the sports car or the 4 seat compromise. What is more important to you. We all made our choice.

I love when people ask 370z guys what car they should get, like you don't already know what we are going to say. 370Z ftw!!!

Out of curiosity, why do people cross shop the Gen C and the 370Z? One is a sports car the other one is not. Anyway, the best suggestion anyone can give you is to test drive them both and experience first hand what each has to offer.

I came up wiht 3 reasons:

1. Same price range
2. Both appeal to younger (20-35) buyers looking for a sporty car. The definition of sporty can be subjective but I would call the gen coupe sporty (not a sports car however)
3. Similar power numbers

The kia/hyundai's look great on paper spec wise. See if you can get one for an extended test drive. Put a few hundred miles on it, then decide.

I've test driven both... More than a couple of times. The Hyundai always felt to me like a cheap version of the introductory 350z. When you drive the 370z it feels like a more solid car with an incredible for the price interior the VQ engine has won numerous awards! 370. My choice

I was interested in both, the Genesis and the Z. Test drove the Genesis and felt like I was really have to work it to wring some power from it. I also was really displeased with the lack of quality of the interior. I found the tranny to be a bit notchy as well.

The Z is just so much more refined. I really felt like I was in a sports car whe in sat in it. Interior quality is top notch and the power and was fantastic for having fun!

In the end, you really have to test drive them both to determine what's best for you.

Oh yeah, one more thing: Something I noticed that was REALLY prevalent int the gen coupe community is that they are all pulling of off the Hyundai badges in lieu of something else. That speaks VOLUMES to me.
