Nissan 370z or 350z
Will be buying either a 370z, 350z or 98 eclipse soon. Id prefer to get the Nissan name. Which (obviously opinionated) should i buy, the 350z or 370z? Also which year? What can i expect from this car as far as maintaining it? What should be the first few things i change on it? ex. spoiler....body kit....exhaust..

Really only you and your budget can answer this question. But the the 370 would have to be top priority. The 370 makes the 350 look outdated and the Eclipse would be out of the question IMO.
And as far as to what I'd do first would be wheels and lower that baby. |
Seriously?

I just think that asking which to buy is the worse question...maybe which trim!
I'd say buy the eclipse! |
Cross shopping cards that are 10+ years apart from each other is not a common thing to do when you consider the older one is *less* expensive then the newer ones (vs. looking at a 2009 Z vs say a 2000 911S)
The cars are strikingly different...if you want an older eclipse (presuming GST or GSX here) you are looking for a car that is not modified so that you can modify it. Modified ones are beat to sh!t by now. Z cars are 2 seat sports cars built to a higher base performance level (with less easy tricks to do as its a NA 6 not a detuned turbo 4). You likely know all of this already. So seriously, you expect useful information from other people? If you want to F&F it up...the GSX is the right package. You will have to hunt for a clean one but they are certainly out there. If you want the refinement of a 2 seater sports car, find your Z but don't expect the same kind of mod ratio as sub 20K sports coupes. Its a much lower volume car with a higher level of factory tune. Back in my track/autoX days I drove a few modified Eclipses and they were a hoot but I preferred the NA Honda route (and its effect on my wallet). Given my preferences, I would be looking at an EVO/STI not an Eclipse at this point. Closer in price and more refined then the mid-90's design of the gen 2 DSM hatch. - b |
In my mind, both Nissans are the better buy.
Like it's been said, what is your budget?? Would you be able to finance and/or lease a new 370z?. Try test-driving the different versions[ coupe, roadster, nismo] of 350 and 370 |
The 370 is light years ahead of the 350..Just drive the two and even a noobie like me can tell the difference..

And all these 3 are different prices, what is your budget? Otherwise, without any concern, 370z for sure. Simply much better and newer car than the other two. :tiphat: |

Like others have said, it really depends on your budget and what your plans are for it. If you are wanting to mod it out and track it often or dont want a somewhat hefty car note I would go for the 350. The 350's are cheap and you will feel much better pushing an older car to its limits rather than a newer car. Parts are more plentiful if something should happen and being that the car has been out for about 10 years it has a much larger aftermarket and cheaper mods (to a certain extent).
A 370 would be a good car to mod as well but if you have a high car note you may not be able to afford the mods. Overall the 370 is a better car all around. The aftermarket is pretty good and you dont see 370's every time you turn your head. It really depends on what your goals are for the car and how much you are willing to pay. The 350 will be cheaper as far as car and mods go. The 370 is a better car but more expensive. IMO I think a 350 looks a little better. It has a more sleek look. I like the 370 too which is why ill be buying one very shortly (350 was totaled Sunday). Also keep in mind that the 350 will more than likely have more "wear and tear" due to their age. Which is another reason Ill be getting a 370 rather than a 350. |
Find your three options and test drive them. You should end up with your answer. It's way better than asking some random people on the interwebz how to spend your money.
Oh, IBTL. :tiphat: |
I agree, taking them all for a test drive should help you determine which car suits your needs/wants. I personally would say go with the 370 if u can afford it. :D

I started my recent journey looking at 350s. I soon discovered the affordable ones were tired and maybe not well cared for, especially the interiors. Then there is some mystery noise in the rack that is common, expensive to fix and sure to return in the fixed rack.... not a deal breaker but would drive me nuts.
I started looking at cleaner newer 350s, I think their interior refreshed was 06. i was dancing around 20k. it wasn't that much more to get into a good used 370 which to me is more car. The ease/cost of money is probably better on the 370 which could be a factor now and WILL be a factor by the time you sell to do something else. 25-30k will buy a lot of cherry 370s |
Your budget margin sounds pretty wide. A 98 eclipse GST/GSX in good condition is probably around 5K and a used 370 in good condition is around 25K depending on trim. If you can afford a 370 that would be your best choice IMO. You could pickup a 350, but you'll probably regret it later especially when you know you could have bought a 370.

No offense to the OP, but once a while we see a new member pop up and say "I am looking for either a Z or a (whatever brand) and what do you guys think.... blah blah blah....... I love the Z so much have to marry her......", and after pages of opinions from the Z fellows all the sudden he post a pic of a NEON and say "thank you all you buddies but last night I passed by a dealership and fell in love with this beauty.... thank you...!", and then he will disappear forever.....
I hope this is not the case..... :tiphat: Again, no offense to OP, but it's just weird to have someone asking opinions between a 13yrs old Mitsu and 2 Zs. I can understand tossing between the 2 Zs.... but the price is still a big difference between the two... What is the budget and the purpose(mod/DD or what???) :tiphat: CAD$0.02 |

Alright, obviously i should had posted a little more to my topic. Id like to keep it under 35k. Id love the 2012 370z Sport, which is (of course) the highest $$$ id go. The eclipse is just a side car. I didnt expect ppl to post on it. I was just stating those are the 3 cars. I would be mostly a DD with of course doing a few mods over time. I absolutely have fallen in love with the new 2013 look though. It will be a little while before i buy a car and im shopping around. The one that has caught my eye is the 370z. I dont really like the look of the pre 2010's though. Im just wondering what everyone else thinks though. It's best to get actual customer reviews instead of listening to the hype.

I used to drool over the 350, had been planning on getting one for over 3 years. Wasn't a fan of the 370 when it first came out (many people hate new models off the bat lol)
Anyways, point I'm trying to make is, I really did my research and realized how much better the 370Z was in terms of interior, look and performance and then financially it became possible so jumped on it. Read up about the Synro Rev Match, etc Only reason I would suggest getting the 350 is if you are trying to save some bucks and get a Z under 20K If you are a Z fan/fanatic (doesn't sound like you are) then you'll really want the 370...its wider, more HP, more refined and resembles the 240Z (if u care lol) |
If you get a 350 nothing earlier than 2006 (306 hp). I'd rather get a 370 first. I think it has better style.

Welcome to the forum, this topic has been absolutely beat to death and causes nothing but drama every time.
I would suggest you read these threads: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...ownership.html http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...350z-370z.html http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...ighlights.html http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...0z-v-350z.html |

I was debating a 350z or 370z too. The more research I did the more I wanted a 370z, I fell in love with the 370z after I test drove it. The 350's are cool but if you have the budget to get a 370z and you can get a good deal, I don't know why you wouldn't. I actually just made the deal for my 370z tonight lol. Let the longest month of my life begin.... As far as the eclipse goes, it really depends where you are in your life. If your credit and income aren't great yet maybe it would be wise to go with the eclipse for a short period of time.
|
I've actually owned all three and I defiantly love my 370Z the most, but I do miss my eclipse sometimes... but that was a fully built car on 22 pounds of boost :icon18: There is seriously no comparison though man. Night and day between those cars and more than a decade of time.

I've also owned both. the 350 had it's share of issues when it first came out.
couldn't keep the front end alignment correct. front tires wore out after 5000 miles. and mine always seemed to have some kind of rattle here and there. but still it was a good car.. but imo when your comparing the 350 to the 370 it's not a fair fight.. nissan got the 370 right. no it's not perfect some have been known to burn oil and it should have came with an oil cooler.. but if you want to attract attention and meet total strangers that want to play 20 questions about your 370. thats the one to get........ |
Wow sick eclipse flushnismo

Alright, ive read through and am sorry for even posting this when i could had read other topics. Just so everyone knows im new to the car scene. Im almost 20 but i never really cared about a car other than if it can get me from home to work and back. Like i posted, what would probably need to be the first modifications. Ex. exhaust, i dont necessarily need exact exhaust but like if the sound of the 370z doesnt sound right for its body should i switch it or anything. My sunfire i own now obviously had some1 who was retarded. Cause for a small car its pretty damn loud and i hate it. Loud doesnt fit the car at all. Not saying some small cars shouldnt have it but just this car isnt nice with it.
|
Please don't burden the forum with any further ridiculous questions. Buy a Honda civic- 1999 model
|
Hero1- the modifications you do to your car is your personal preference, answering a question such as "What should I do first?" Is kinda hard, because we don't know your preferences. With that being said, if you are getting the 370z, just feel free to browse this forum and look at what people have done to their Z's and you can get a good idea of where you want to start and what you like.
(ps: also if you aren't sure about getting the 370z yet, I wouldn't worry about the mods just yet, first get the car then worry about what to do with it. just some advice) :tiphat: |
