Default Stupid advice of the day

Spin cycles and floor mats don't mix.

So I went shooting with a friend this weekend, more for the drive out there than for the actual shooting. On the way, though, I realized that driving fast with a bunch of guns in the car wasn't probably the brightest thing, so I kept it easy. Smarter thing I did that day.

On the way back, my friend says, "Did you step in something". Great. Turns out there is poo. On his Shoo.

He was a good sport, cleaned out the bits that had touched the actual carpet (it was pretty dried out poo), and took the floor mat in. He's a dad, so he got all Miracle Cleaner on that sh_t. I figured, "fine, good, whatever".

Until I was driving home. Then I realized my new-car smell was now dried-crap smell.

I got home, took the floor mat out, Simple Greened the h3ll out of it, sprayed it for ten minutes with the "jet" setting on the hose, then decided...

...maybe it would be good idea to run it through the washing machine. After all, I didn't want any crap smell in my new car, and the washer should be pretty benign.

Not. A Good. Idea.

Anyone know where to get new right-side floor mat? I figure I'll call the dealer today...

Top loading. And if you need photos of a floor mat with torn edges, then I guess I can get some.

The point was more to say that the washer is not a good floormat cleaning device.

Elaborate, what happened to the mat?

... nevermind, saw your reply. Thanks!

Dude, I laughed my a** off at your story. Thx for the laugh.
But then I felt bad for laughing, so I looked up the mats for you. You can order them from Courtesy. Looks like you have to order a complete set tho. They've got the regular ones, and the Nismo ones (which are less expensive).

Regular: Nissan Floor Mats (Black Carpet w/ Metal Z Logo) - 2009 370Z :: CourtesyParts

Nismo: NISMO Floor Mats (Black Carpet) - 2009 370Z :: CourtesyParts

I have 2 techniques I use for cleaning mats without killing them.

1. Steam cleaner. Still need to spot treat oil stains but everything else comes right out.

2. Pressure washer. On the second lowest setting with a little detergent you can blast just about anything right out of there.

I used to have a detailing shop and I had a pressure washer with a boiler. That thing cleaned the hell out of mats, wheels, and engines. It would also take the paint right of the car if you weren't careful.

I have seen some pics on here of mats with color matched Z's on them. I think they are sold by one of the sponsors. I may get those in yellow. The Nissan stock mats are pretty flimsy if you ask me. I didn't get a trunk mat, so I will definitely hook up with one for back there.

Yep, 370zsource.com has the colored mats. I'm contemplating buying a red lettered set to match my car also.

So did your washing machine and/or dryer inherit the smell?

I don't mind the laugh - that's what the story was for. And I sure appreciate you hunting those down

As far as price: $131. Ouch. Expensive mistake.

As far as the dryer - it seems good so far, but I'll let my wife use it next . I actually had the mat clean enough when I put it in that I probably could have just let it dry instead of washing it.

Cool. Now when it's your turn to step in poop, you'll be ready.
