all you have to do is just notice every time you wanted to punch it or slide around a turn, and something feels like it's holding you back, you'll see a flashing traction light on the gauge. those are the only real times it kicks in. i got to know the car going to large empty parking lots and jus ripping it up. like the others said, it's a easy car to control with minimal wheel correction.

I spun out a few times going onto turns too hot so I can say I have experience with the car past its limit I guess, but maybe not just at it, haha. I'm not giving any advice though. Plan to hit the track again on the 25th.

Just remember this. You don't win anything even if you pass the car in front of you and you have to drive home, that should keep you relatively safe.

True, but that light is often flashing, even when I have full control. So I will ignore the light until it is too late. I still have yet to spin unintentionally though.

Would be interesting to see a VTEC logo on the NISSAN engine cover, LOL.

Regarding the VTEC VDC, I would suggest it is wise to leave it on, you never know what's on the road surface and sometimes it requires more to correct the car than just counter-steer + gas-pedal (from personal experience).

Who knows why did conor1123's dad turn off the VDC, maybe he was like some of us, thinking "Who the heck need VDC, I can counter steer....."

No offense to OP but just saying.

Who knows? :tiphat:

He underestimated how much the VDC actually keeps the car under control and it ended up biting his *** lol.

After all, i'm the one on the forums all day and I learn more and more about my car and what it can do everyday, he doesn't! :P

BTW, any updates on the repair?

I think I'll keep mine on for the commute home today. Sorry for your bad luck - kind of a wake up call for me - maybe others too. My Dad passed away 15 years ago - wish he was still around to thrash my car.

Ya, sorry about that. My post was supposed to have mentioned if he had been saving since like 15 or so, then it would come out to around $20k. I guess my brain got ahead of my typing. :tiphat:

Nothing quite yet. Debating on buying some new side skirts or seeing how much of it they can fix.

I think the Z is a lot of car for your average 18 year old. So I find humor in that his dad is the one who lost control. Also, I have friends who grew up karting since they could reach the pedals, and I'd guarantee they're more skilled drivers than most people who've only driven on the road.

I'm used to seeing the kids at the local HS leave campus in some pretty amazing cars, easily in the 30-40k range. How he can afford it is moot.

Cmike2780 02-13-2012 04:01 PM

Sucks about your car, but at least every time your Dad knocks your driving skills, you can say "hey, remember when you trashed my practically spotless Z"?

I dont understand why anyone would drive with the VDC off except on a race track..I mean what is the point and how do you discover you are not capable?

Once wrapped around a tree ;) Driving with VDC off doesn't always equate with driving recklessly. The driving experience with it off is... much more rewarding.

"I don't always drive with the VDC button off, but when I do .... " XX

There was a time when cars didn't come with VDC. Or even computers for that matter. So what's to understand? I've been to the track so far with this car 4 times. I know well the cars limits and believe me, when you want to put the power down in either an emergency situation or just having fun and the car bogs out because of the VDC, you'll be kicking yourself.

You discover capability at the track. I don't recommend finding it on the street. Hey, driving with the VDC off isn't for everyone I guess. And that's ok.

Edit: I'm just so sick and tired of the stupid mention of VDC whenever someone spins out or hits something. If you got there in the first place, VDC probably wasn't going to help you anyway.
