As most have said before the sports package is the best choice for the money. you can always add the other stuff as you go. of course the first thing you wil rip out is the crappy sound system. it's got to be the worst in the car industry. the brakes and the rays alone are kick axx.............

The sport package is worth it if you don't plan on heavy mods to your car - better brakes, VLSD, SRM for 6MT, spoiler, 19" wheels.

The Touring style is nice for a daily driver - seems like leather heated seats aren't a must for you, but the auto-dimming mirror, nicer stereo, aluminum trim pedals, XM satellite radio and its the only way to get Navigation. Again, depends on how much after market you plan to do.

Most of the base sports on the lots come with backup cams on the rear view which adds homelink and auto-dim/compass feature on the base models now. Or you can order it if the car isn't preequipped as a dealer installed option. Aluminum pedals can be found in a junkyard, sold here in the parts forum or can be ordered thru your dealer as a part item.

Why is the sport package an absolute necessary? Its $4000 in Canada. I didn't get it because I planned to get the Amuse kit (no use for spoiler) and upgrade to 40th anniversary brakes as well as Volks.

I actually have one other question, a bit off topic but since it's my thread I can hijack it myself!

I am very picky about the color. I was originally looking at just yellow or blue, but after browsing these forums a lot I've noticed a ton of people doing vinyl wraps. I've also seen quite a few pictures of orange or green painted Z's. (The green one I saw was fantastic).

My question, with these vinyl wraps becoming more popular, what's the average cost of doing that and is it durable enough to stay on for many years? If it's something I can put on my car for a few thousand and it'll be just like a new paint job, it may be worth while.

it's only about 2k-2.5k in the states and its worth it for the brakes and LSD alone. the wheels and spoiler and other stuff is just bonus

Its $3030 in the states for the sport pkg.. There's the Nissan Cars, Trucks, Crossovers, & SUVs | Nissan USA website I posted right here before and I'm posting it again so you don't have to misinform people. Invoice price is about 2700.

To answer why it is a must. The tire and wheel setup bring the Z from .94g on the base model to approx 1g. The Lsd Is good for aggressive street and light track. Anything more it needs to be replaced. The rims are made by Rays Engineering, Japan's Premeire wheel maker. Aftermarket the rims alone are $540 each. The RE50A rubber around the Rays wheels are worth about $1400. Throw in a LSD and you saved a decent amount of cash. But it doesn't stop there...
Though the brakes need a brake cooling mod for heavy tracking, as well as new pads rotors and brake lines. They are extremely capable on the street. The Z has the shortest stopping time of all the affordable sports cars. 60-0 in 102ft. (103ft for 2009 &10models). On street duty, they never fade and the only mod necessary for street is the steel brake lines which can be bought through Z1 for about $115 give or take a few bucks.
For the track they will need a little more but its still very cost effective... Even with having to put about a grand in mods to the brakes for track excluding the brake cooling duct. Performace rivals. $4-5k brembo and stoptech brakes and are well worth the money and a little upgrading elbowgrease...
So $3030 gets you 14" 4 piston Akebono brakes, Rays Engineering (owns Volk) ultralightweight aluminum wheels 19x9F 19x10R and wrapped with high end rubber. You get the good for street LSD and a great look for your car. The stock wheels are highly unimpressive on this car.

I was wondering the same thing, i heard of them being used for the track, not a necessity for the street. I heard that brake peddle feel is better with stainless steel, but not that dramatic, if so i'll order them right now? My z is supposed to be here by the end of the month.

Bear in mind that the Z's brakes whether sport or standard tend to overheat at the track due to lack of cool ducts. I think steel lines help maintain consistent pedal feel but only when teamed with high temp fluid and better pads.

On the sport v. base issue. Think about it for anywhere between $3-4k you get some nice lightweight wheels, an lsd (crappy but functional), synchro rev on the m6's and a big set of brakes. If you did any of that in the aftermarket the wheels alone would be more so when it comes to bang for the buck the sport package rocks especially for the m6 guys, I love synchro rev.

To me, the pedal feel is much better. I don't know how dramatic you need the improvement to be but for me, I think its an awesome mod. But I have full mods on the brakes so the improvement is greater for me. Besides why would you want flexing in your lines??? Its just a great mod to ensure long term reliability.
