Oil cooler mounting question =o)

Mounting the oil cooler with the fitting up or down?

From reading in the forum, the mounting with fitting down will allow the oil to be drain from the cooler. Mounting from the top the old oil will remain in the oil cooler unless you remove the bumper and take out the oil cooler itself and drain it. Is this true?

Is this all the differences?

There are a hundred posts on this...

mounting down - oil drains but levels on the dipstick will not read correctly
mouting up - correct levels but oil will stay in cooler

Pick which one you are more comfortable with and go with it. Better yet, if you take your oil to get changed at a shop, mount it with the fittings up unless you feel like replacing a scored block.

If later on you plan on putting on Stillen Gen 3 intakes mount the oil cooler accordingly.

Make sure that the hole you cut (enlarge) for the intake tube is not where you put the oil cooler too, like I did and had to buy a frame mount for the OC and relocate it with the oil line still attached. I had just enough hose length to luck out. Still it meant another trip to the auto parts store. Uncomfortable surprise, to say the least.
