Any idea when they come out and their price? i know they're supposed to come in spring but would it be late feb to march. I'm looking into getting into a new vehicle in the next 30-45 days i dont want to be paying full price for a 5.0 to find out a month later the 2013s are out. Also i heard some rumors about a price increase to a base 5.0 near 40k.

IMO, its not worth waiting for, but I am also not a big fan of the new front bumper so take it with a grain of salt. I guess what I am saying is, if you have to pick between MY 12 and MY 13 for the Z, it is going to be based on looks and not any performance metric. |

Best thing to do is to drive all the american and japanese muscle and sports cars. I test drove all of them a few months ago and the standard base corvette blew everything out of the water. I almost bought a 2012 vette but it was damaged by detailers at delivery. I bought the 370z the next day $15K less that the vette.
Heres a summary of what I found after driving all the High Horse Power Muscle & Sports Cars. 1. Base model vette best overall performance appearance inside and out, poor reliabilty over the long run. 2. 370z better handling than the vette, great appearance and design, best reliabilty, more than enough power. 3. Camaro ss 430 hp best looks and appearance inside and out best power and handling of all the 3 muscle cars, back seat a real plus. 4. Dodge challenger rt 5.7 375hp manual, love the old challenger looks dodge nailed it on the outside, buy on the inside it looks like a work truck really plain, handling good in a straight line, it really didn't seem like it hade 375hp when driving it, more like 275hp. 5. Mustang GT, seemed a tie with the challenger, on the outside the mustang looks great, and on the inside it very boring or plain, performance a liitle better than the challenger. Then you have fords reliabilty issues. 6. Mazda RX8 , I really lliked this car in styling inside and out , it kind of reminds you of one of the old shelby cobras lemans hard top cars, ( not a mustange corba). Handling was also very good and the rotary engine reminded me of riding a 600cc sport bike , you can have a ball reving the engine to redline and shifting at 10k all day. Even with only 220hp it is surprizingly quick. Its to bad they don't make a 350 hp version of the RX8. Then there is the connection to ford, I never really cared for fords, to many reliability issues. Last edited by gsxr750; 02-10-2012 at 11:35 AM. |

I was in the same boat a couple months back. I was looking for a daily driver replacement and since I already own a Dodge Challenger as a weekend toy, the Mustang popped up on my radar as an addition to the stable.
You get quite a bit for your money in the 5.0 and it has a lot of cool features. Power is pretty nice, but I found the manual trans sloppy in shifting and the auto sluggish. The auto has no manual shift options (bump shift or paddles) which disappointed me. The Z actually feels a bit more peppy to me, but that's likely because it's a bit lighter, but I didn't drive them back to back so it's just from memory. Visibility out of the Mustang was a bit better, and that 5.0L motor is nice and responds well to mods. You do see a Mustang on every corner, but because of that they have a HUGE aftermarket support following. That's one thing I've struggled with on the Challenger. They're rare, and there's not a WHOLE lot of options on aftermarket parts and the parts that are available are $$. The Z looks to be the same. Ultimately I ended up going with a Z. However, I think brand new it's a bit over priced. I found a very low mileage used model (2009 with 2900 miles) for $15K off the price of a new one. I love the car. If the Mustang had paddles or bump shift I might have gone with it, but that was a deal breaker for me. The Challenger is a 6 speed manual, and I wanted an auto to drive to work in traffic, and found the paddle shifters the best of both worlds. |
