Default CarFax Records

since i got my car i wanted to check the carfax to see if there are any records on it and i kept on forgetting to do so. but today i actually didnt so i wrote down my vin and came upstairs and checked the carfax free lemon records. when you check the free lemon record it tells you if there is anything recorded on carfax about your car. so i did a check on mine and it said " The CARFAX database contains 2 important vehicle history records on this 2009 NISSAN 370Z. " but it doesnt tell you what they are. i was wondering if its worth paying 30 bucks to check and see what they are.

i also went on cars.com and searched for brand new 370z's to see if mine is the only one that already has a record on carfax and it was very interesting what i found.

1) Cars.com: 2009 Nissan 370Z
For this one it said that it has 4 records and it only has 6 miles on it.

2) Cars.com: 2009 Nissan 370Z
This one has 3 with only 14 miles on the cars.com page.

3) http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail...eadExists=true
I only checked 4 cars (not counting mine) but out of those 4 this is the only one that has no records on carfax.

I was thinking that those cars might be sold already and the records that they have are the car being titled but then i checked this one which is currently at miller nissan. i saw it last week and just to make sure i called in right know after checking the carfax to see if they have it for sure and the guy told me that its in the parking lot. This one has two records.

4) Cars.com: 2009 Nissan 370Z

Has anyone checked their carfax to see if they have a record on it already? should i check mine to see what those two records are? or would any of you have an idea of what they could be?

The moment it enters the country (importation) can be a record, vehicle listed for sale can be a record, etc.

If you only have 2 then those records most likely are

1) The sale itself (transfer of title)

2) Vehicle registered

Look at some used cars that already have full carfax reports for you to read and you will usually see those 2 first.

the record has to show change of title and when it was registered.

what if someone wants to buy a car and not knowing it could be fourth hand...the record will show it.....

so no worries

And in other news it can take up to a few years for things to show up on Carfax anyway. So just because it shows a clear title means nothing. It can definitely confirm any problems but can not be used to ensure that nothing has happened to the car.

so is there a way to find out if anything did happen to a car? would a body shop be able to tell?

There are a few different things you can check. I'm sure a google search for "check car previous accidents" would turn up some good guides.

I think most states have laws where new car dealers have to disclose damage even if it was repaired.
