Question Dealer or Private??

Hello everyone.

I'm fan of Z and finally I'm going to get into the market.

Few questions before get into the market.

1. Should I buy from the dealer or from the private seller?
I thought there are no tax charge when you trade with private seller. Am I wrong?
What's the pros and cons?

2. I'm living Georgia and it is really hard to find the Z that I want. So I'm thinking to buy from other state. And it's my first time going to other state and buying a car. What method there are and what do you guys recommand?

Thank you for reading my questions.
Hav a nice day!!

Most dealer have a waiting list for the Z....

Go to the classifieds in this Forum if you want to buy used.

If you buy used asked for documentation of service and a CarFax....

From the looks of your post im guessing you are buying used:

1) Benefeits of buying used from a dealer (if certified pre-owned), means you have a full manufacturer inspection, and you can rest assure that the car you are buying is mechanically sound.

Cons, the Z is harder to find than most other cars, so availability in your area might be an issue, along with bargaining power. You may be able to bargain more with a private seller, than compared to a dealership.

2) Which leads to buying used pros, you are going to have more bargaining power than a dealership, (unless seller is intent or firm on price).

Cons, the background of the car, possible cover-ups, accidents, other things the owner may hide when selling you the car. Running a car fax definetley helps, but there may be certain things that may not show up on their.

Best bet is to try and buy certified pre owned, I would say that would serve greatest peace of mind, and you are guaranteed you are getting a quality product. However, there is nothing wrong with buying from a private seller either, if you do decide to buy from a private seller make sure you inspect, test drive, (maybe bring a mechanic friend, or bring to a reputable shop, to check the car out) and thoroughly look over the car, and run a VIN to make sure everything checks out.

Make sure you get a PPI, (pre purchase inspection), as I always get one whenever I buy a used car.

I bought my Z new but you can easliy find a low mile Z used. A used Z with fairly low miles usually means it was driven less and probably well cared for. Also if you want a nissan extended warranty for the car can be purchased fairly cheap. So dealer Nissan certifided is a meh for the most part and a used car inspection 50ish dollars. Cheap nissan warranties can be purchased through Nissan of Santa Rosa, CA.

Buy new at all costs from the dealer or buy a used one from the dealer at only $500-$900 above the actual dealer cost, If you buy one used its vital you get the extended bumper to bumper waranty, all odds are you will need it. There is no way to really tell how the previous owner maintained or drove the car, specialy on a leased vehicle etc.

You can even buy a bumper to bumper waranty on a privately purchased car, but the costs are usually higher than the dealer provided waranties. Geico actually has a pretty good extended bumper to bumper waranty and it only costs about and extra $14 a month, not bad if something goes wrong.

Never buy anything with out first seeing it and driving it, better to pass on a deal than be ripped off or sold some crap. Be very carefull buy cars out of state and meeting the person at a location and handing over cash or cashiers checks. Make sure you meet the person or safe public place or at their residence, see there apartment or home, make sure the phone # is a land line that is traceable back to the seller. Do the actual transaction at a bank where large bills or checks can be verified by bank officials. What ever you do, do not pay by cash or money orders, wire money, western union, paypal etc. Use a certified bank check drawn on your bank, if there is any fraud involved a cashiers or certified check can be stopped payment on by your bank. Make sure the title is legit, look it over for water and security marks etc. Look at all vin tags on the car to make sure they match the title and that they are not altered or look removed and replaced etc. Check car for damage and make sure you run a carfax report on the ID #. Make sure the person you are buying it from has proper ID matching their street address and phone #. Look out for craigslist armed robbers and scammers, stay way from deals where ppl say the car is in one city or state and they are living in another.

Also look out for ppl who have suit #s or PO boxes listed on their ID as they are often shaddy or possible scammers, trying to hide their exact location. They sometimes will even call a suit or box # at a mail box store an Apartment # as these mail box stores allow you to list your address as a suit, box or apartment #.

Ask the person to go to local PD and ask the desk cop to run his ID to see if it matchs who you are dealing with etc. You can even call the local PD where the guy lives and ask to talk to a internet crime detective and he can even tell you if they hav ehad any reports about the individual you are dealing with, as long as you tell the cops who you are, most will actually give you some good advice or help you out. You can even run a quick back background internet check on the seller for $50 and see if he or she is who they claim to be. $50 is very little to spend when you are risking $15k-$30k on an unknown seller.

You may get the idea that I am paranoid, but its just being prepared for all situations that may arise, and believe me after dealing in transactions and avoiding possible scams through out the last 40 yrs. I've seen it all.

Please Pleaseeee take someone with you that truly knows something about cars and buying cars. I am not trying to be mean but your last two post concerns me that you will be in over your head doing this on your own.

Their are so many tools online to at least get you in line with cost, resale, retail value etc. Do not get in a hurry and do some serious home work. Also again not to be mean but get some help on this. Good luck and welcome to the website.

PS. plenty of Z's in GA. Try this link. It will also tell you if it is a good price or a not so good price.
