I just turned 57 last month and the wife and I have been saving for something "cool" for many years. When the people at work first saw the Z they said, "see, I knew you guys were rich". My wife and I both work in the same place. They don't see the 9 and 10 year old cars we have as DD's.

We were very fortunate that we weren't living paycheck to paycheck like most of the people we work with and were able to save a little here and a little there. At this stage in our lives, we finally said this is what we want a screw everyone else.

Same here. We passed on a lot of stuff in life in order to maintain financial stability. That doesn't mean that we passed on life; we've lived in other fulfilling ways. That means no revolving credit card debt, and saving for a rainy day, plus a little more.

When you have savings, that means that you don't have to panic if, God forbid, you lose your job through layoffs or something. It also means that you can jump on an opportunity of a lifetime, because you have the cash.

You have a great credit score so you can borrow at almost free rates! There's no point in using your own cash at such low rates. Keep your cash to take advantage of investment opportunities to grow your money.

My other vehicle is a 1999 Toyota Sienna. I'm going to keep her going as long as I can.

Condition yes. As I'm driving through a parking lot, I'll pass by a banged up car because I think the driver could give a crap about his or others' cars.

People whom judge others based on what car they drive are clueless.

My doctor makes over 350k a year and drives a Toyota Camry.

I know kids (17-22) who drive 60-80K cars who make less than 30K a year. They live at home and mommy/daddy paid 1/2 and they have no other expenses.

What car someone drives proves nothing.

I'm not sure what people think. They certainly stare at the car. But when they see me I think they get confused. I have a beard, jeans, and a t shirt. I don't look like I should be able to own one ><

The reaction I get from people who know what the car is, is the best though. Some girl at work when she asked what I got and I told her she gasped and almost fell out of her seat. Was like "OMG I love the Z"

That's just seeing me in the car, now when I pass them doing 100+ I might know what they are thinking then lol.

It's not what car you drive but what condition you keep it in. Unfixed damage on the outside a rats nest on the inside.

I've seen some really well keep cheap cars and some really trash expensive cars. I think that says a lot about the drivers and how they appreciate what they have.

For the record, my Z has over 20k miles on it and still looks new inside and out.

The CEO of my company drives something like a Camry. Kinda blow my mind as she is a millionaire. It's not even a new Camry. She says that driving an expensive car would look bad to her customers (it's a privately owned company of about 5.5k people)

people around where i live, dont necessarily "judge" by the car i drive BUT they do appreciate a nice car when they see one... whenever i drive my Z through town, its like everyone (young and experienced) stop and stare. elligance at its purest . and the compliments i get on it is like a daily routine (mostly from older guys remembering the days of the 280z )
