Fi or n/a?
I find myself stuck in a quandry. Right now my z is stock. I currently find myself in a position as to where i can afford a sts turbo system. Or i can order a full exhaust system sway bars and coilovers. What would you do in my situation and why?
|
If you have the funds for the turbo, and back up money if things go wrong, turbo all the way.
|
the only reason why i got a V6 is because i was tired of fi on 4 bangers.
so it would defeat the purpose for me. the car's fast enough for street imho. |
I would have picked Fi if it was another kit. Honestly, where can you use that kind of power anyways?
|
I don't know from experience, but from what I read, going FI brings nothing but heart ache.
|
Bolt ons because of your selection on the kit... If it were up to me I'd do fast intentions kit!

Personally I would love a SC instead, but for reliability concerns I would stick full bolt on as undue stress to drive train & chassis components start to become a concern. :twocents:. |

If you just put in the turbo, you plainly gain horsepower, depends on how much horses you gain, then you still have to think about brakes so you can stop the car, tires so you can properly transfer the hp to the ground and exhaust so the extra air suck in have a way to get out, then clutch, maybe the final gear.... It's not just the cost of the turbo. If you go for the latter option, you gain on handling directly, which you will enjoy it right away, with the exhaust system, you get a much better exhaust note and engine response. Which, if you are using the Z as your DD, you have enough horsepower PLUS you have a better ride. With turbo, you have horsepower, but where can you actually use them..... going from one traffic light to the next one faster?? I would suggest the full exhaust system sway bars and coilovers. :hello: My $0.02 |
FI kits are on the costly side for this car. But I'm saving for a proper one. It will take me a year to save for my turbo and tranny kit while doing other mods on my car. And another year to save the dreaded emergency what if money.
Patience is a virtue. If you really love your Z? Save your money and buy a GTM,HKS or greddy kit. Maybe in the time it takes to save the kits will drop further in price and you will have even more mod money when the time comes.... buy the necessary less costly bolt ons for turbo prep while saving for a proper turbo on the side. |
i dont understand why everyone is saying the sts kit is not a decent kit compared to others.

Unless you plan on turning the Z into an all out track machine, I would just work on the suspension and do some bolt ons for engine performance.
Since mine's a daily driver (well most of the time) I need it to be as reliable as possibe. And as Kenchan said, the Z is plenty fast for the street. Theres no need for FI on a street driven Z unless you just need to feel like you can beat almost any car that rolls up on you imo. |

I do not understand why people are so scared of FI on our cars. Everyone has a right to their opinions, but there are some great and safe/reliable options available. The thrill of boost is amazing. I will never forget the day I drove home after my Z's SC install. Wow... it's like having a second engine. Not just between street lights: On-ramps, passing, the freeway on a roll, coming out of a curve on a country road and hitting boost onto a straight... the list goes on and on. Plus the sound and the uniqueness that the FI kit adds to your car. I have a friend with a STS kit on his 350Z... it is amazing. Don't be afraid. It's a sports car, it's a fun luxury. If you can afford to make it better, you should. If you can afford FI, you can make it ridiculous. It's like the difference between a regular roller coaster and one that goes upside down in a corkscrew in the dark... they are both fun, but once you step up to the later, you'll never go back. Trust me, go FI, you will not be disappointed.
