geosZ 01-22-2012 12:32 PM

looks like 2009 issues. Nissan gotta look into this

PapoZalsa 01-22-2012 01:17 PM

I think the data should also contain if your car is a DD or weekend warrior.

Mike 01-22-2012 03:59 PM

everyone who has had the failure should report it to the NHTSA, this is one way to get a recall started.

Jasonle 01-22-2012 04:41 PM

Just filled complaint!

edge573 01-22-2012 04:47 PM

bjblackout 01-22-2012 05:53 PM

Mine failed at 15K. 2009 5 speed touring with sport pkg

At dealership as I type. Will get word tomorrow how long it will be there.

NCSUPACK09 01-22-2012 06:31 PM

Oh man, this just happened to me 2 weeks ago. I went into the dealership and told them it was the steering wheel lock assembly. They then spent a week trying to figure out what was wrong with it until they finally listened to me and ordered it. Unfortunately, the part is back ordered and they said that I have to wait until 2 Feb before it will be in, but they told me if I call Nissan headquarters and complain, they might step in an get it sent sooner (i doubt it though). At least they gave me a loaner

Anyways, mine is a 2010 Base + Sport with 17k. Was #27 produced for 2010 and was built in Oct 2009, so its probably the same part as all the 2009s.

MJB 01-22-2012 06:40 PM

Courtesy Parts claim they have them in stock- LOCK SET-STEERING - 370Z (Z34) 2009+ :: Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com . Not sure if its RevC or RevD, you guys may want to give them a call.

I would just rather order it from them and DIY, save yourself some money if your warranty is out.

kensnismo 01-22-2012 09:39 PM

Mike good call if everyone filed a compaint the gov would force a recall.

onzedge 01-22-2012 10:23 PM

Mine failed at 26,350 miles on January 19, 2012. It is a 2010 and had a Rev C module.

rtrono 01-26-2012 01:44 PM

Mine failed this morning at a little under 23k miles. 2010 40th Anniversary. Had it taken to Nissan in Simi Valley on a flatbed. Waiting to see what they say.

PapoZalsa 01-26-2012 03:27 PM

WOW, this sucks!

rtrono 01-26-2012 04:17 PM

Just got a call from the dealer. They confirmed it is the lock. They will have my car until Tuesday next week waiting for the part to come in. Good think I kept my Frontier to drive around.

kenchan 01-26-2012 05:27 PM

So I am assuming you have the RevC lock? When u pick up the car next wk can you check with the dealer? Thanks and GL!

cossie1600 01-26-2012 07:10 PM

Has anyone found out what is causing the failure?

red6spd 01-26-2012 07:49 PM

Poorly constructed part, prone to early failure.

cossie1600 01-26-2012 08:38 PM

I would start by reporting it to NHTSB. Maybe if enough people report it, they will start a case on it. As of now, we probably have to fork the bills until someone steps up and sue the SOB for it

jenny 01-26-2012 08:42 PM

2009 nissian z coupe
44,000.00 miles. the part is back ordered. I waited 2-3 weeks!!

Um, is that what you paid for the car? or did you mean the part and miss a decimal place?

Its the whole control unit. Dont go to nissan dealership unless u have warranty.

haggomyeggo 01-27-2012 08:22 AM

I had mine go out about a month ago
2009 touring sport 42k mi
Part cost 500 another 200 at dealer to install
Not positive but dealer told me the keys needed reprogramming with new part so you can order the part separate like I did but dealer might still have to install or at least redo the keys...
They said my part was on back order too but I got it in like 3 days...

SiXK 01-27-2012 09:13 AM

31000 miles when it failed.

2009 370Z with sport package bought Jan 15, 2009 (so it had to be among the first ones out)

I do not know which lock unit I had. Did not know what to look for at the time.

woah, i dont know the exact deal wat's going on with your car, but the part itself (even at the local stealership) is about $750 and labor 1hr to install (it physically only costs $500 shipped from nissan parts stores and about 15min to install). i doubt you need the entire control unit.

Total should be about 850 + tax.

A link was posted where you could buy it for I think $495 and it is a very easy install. A DIY has been posted in the other postings about this showing how easy it is to do yourself. Sorry for posting against what this is supposed to be about but if you are out of warranty it will cost you half of what the dealership will charge.

ummm...guess who made the DIY? :ugh2:

sboden 01-27-2012 09:57 AM

Sorry...I guess I should have responded to Jenny instead of your post. Your DYI is so easy there is no reason to pay the dealership anything unless you need to buy the part from them.
