Should I wait for 2013?

Hi friends,

My dream car is the Z, and after 10 years of working I am finally in the financial position of purchasing my first Z.

A little birdy has told me that the 390Z might be released in 2013. Does anyone know if thats true? Will it be at the start or end of 2013? Is it worth waiting for, or should I buy the Z now?

Thanks

theBird

350z = 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008
370z = 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 (most likely), 2014 (probably)

Don't hate me, but 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500 is 650bhp and 600tq.

GaleForce 01-21-2012 09:33 PM

Well, you can get a car that has most of the bugs worked out of it (2012 370z) or be the Guinea Pig for the new model (20~ 390z)

Also you could be enjoying a Z now... or hope the Mayan's are wrong... ;)

SPOHN 01-21-2012 11:08 PM

So a little birdie told you and your named theBird?:werd:

I concur on both counts...if it looks like that or it's an electric or hybrid then I am glad I have a 2010.

Yuck and yuck!

m4a1mustang 01-22-2012 12:25 AM

World ends in December. Buy now.

Here are a list of birdies.

1. The 2011 year will introduce a turbo model
2. The 2012 year will introduce a hybrid model
3. They will make a mercedes based engine that will be smaller with forced induction on the new Z.
4. The new Z will be completely electric.
5. The next generation will bring back the ZX.

I'm sure some other members can add to the list. Truth be told. Nissan doesn't say sh1t about what's next in there cars unless they are brand new concepts. Everyone thought no changes at all would happen in 12. All of a sudden, the car is out and has an oil cooler. My advice is either buy now or wait a couple of years and hope for the best??? If low sales doesn't kill U.S. importation? That would be rumor number 6.

danny370z777 01-22-2012 01:47 AM

Get the Z now and enjoy.

bigsix 01-22-2012 04:43 AM

This Z34 is the Z to get. It has a big V6 engine, amazing looks, and powerful performance.

Observing what's happening to most other cars, engine will be downsized most likely (< 3.7).

:iagree:

Unless there is concrete information that the next model year is going to be materially better than what's available now, buy it now and have fun!

That's what I did. I have a 2012 on the way and will hopefully be here next month. Not that I'll be able to/want drive it during winter. At least it'll be pretty to look at in the garage.

You can play the waiting game forever. If/when the next gen car does come out, I'd personally want to avoid the first couple years so they can get the bugs worked out, especially if it has a bunch of new technology. By then, you're at least 2-3 years out. Get the 2012. It's an incredible car, and you can have fun now!

And when you do want to upgrade to the new hotness, trade in. :)

Just my 0.02.

Mikes350z 01-22-2012 09:10 AM

most cars have a 6-7 year "shelf" model life.... i.e. 2003 Nissan 350z until 2009 which is actually 7 years. so 2015 would be a new model line with complete changes like we saw with the 370Z, rumors from nissan that are most likely to be conceptualized is the hybrid model, a zx model, taking the GTR/Infiniti G37x all wheel drive to the Z with stick and a TT model. 2013 wont bring you much change.... If you don't wanna wait, you wont miss anything significant.

Best answer to date.

I vote for rumor number 6...that would make the 370Z more desirable.

wilsonp 01-22-2012 04:59 PM

Get a lightly used one and you can trade without much penalty if a new one comes out that's worth it.

alcheng 01-22-2012 05:19 PM

When the 390z actually come out after N period of time, your little 'birdie' will tell you to wait for the NISMO.

TheGreatOne 01-22-2012 05:32 PM

The way the industry is going, I'm scared Nissan might join in and really kill the heritage of the Z and make it some Dual Clutch Hybrid electric mess

I imagine you like the Z for what currently exists, not just for what is "about" to come out.

I'd go 2012 since all kinks are worked out and it resembles the 240z so much...but thats just me...thats why I jumped on the 370

Skeeterbop 01-22-2012 06:06 PM

I don't see how hybrid technology would kill it's heritage. Back on topic, you can play the waiting game forever. If you have the patience you could wait for the 410ZTT-E with TT and electric assist to come out. Just get the 2012 and be happy with what you got  Can't say that I feel I'm missing the oil cooler that my 2011 doesn't have and if I do want one, I can get a much better performing aftermarket cooler.

Yup... and sometimes we can't get everything I want. My dream is for the Z to be DCT and TT. But nissan won't make one. So I will beef up my tranny and install my TT and make my dreams come true to some degree. In other words, you will spend all your life waiting for your favorite car to be exactly the way you want it.
If the Z is what you love? Buy a used one and mod it to exactly how you want it. The Z is an awesome platform for customization. Imho.. its the one of the best though one of the least cost effective compared to EVO's and subies.

Supercars are built, not bought...

(Actually completely untrue...I just ripped this saying off from rockcrawler guys)

bigsix 01-23-2012 06:23 AM

It seems Nissan designed this car for owners to customize it.

Westwood 01-23-2012 10:27 AM

I've been pretty happy being a "Guinea Pig" for the 2009 370Z...
