Default So, who can explain this one to me?

So, I'm just checking my email tonight and realize I have a message from the guy who purchased my wrecked Yellow Z. And when I say purchased, he's the one who sold it on eBay. Anyway...come to find out he sold it to someone in California for $9500 but he doesn't have the keys to the car.

I remember when I was on the phone with my Allstate rep that she said I would be getting an envelope in the mail and that I need to put the keys in it and mail it back to them. Well, that's exactly what I did and I also sent the LoJack "key" since I had both attached to my keyring. Naturally he is asking me if I have the keys, which of course I don't. I told him I would contact the Allstate rep who handled my total loss claim. Do you think I will have any luck or am I just wasting my time? I know I can't really do anything until Tuesday, at the earliest.

Any suggestions?

Question

Our Z will not turn on any of the gauges with the exception of the multitasking gauge housing the fuel, etc. only to alert you that you need a key. How is it that in the eBay ad in two (2) pictures not only are all the gauges on (indicating the mileage) and the navigation system is fully activated? The ignition switch is also lighted in the "ON" position.

Your Previous Z in the eBay Ad

Your relationship to this car ended when the insurance company took over, and definitely when the insurance company sold the vehicle to another party. Unless, you were required to send the keys with a signature required by the receiving party, your part is over.

The day you got THE check from your insurance agent you no longer have ANY association with this car. Tell the ebay guy to contact your insurance agent and NOT email you anymore with any request.

Socal is right on the money. The car is on acc II position on those pictures. They simply lost the keys and now asking you for a set.

I completely forgot to look at the pictures they used in that ebay ad. Yep, somebody dropped the ball somewhere. Not only that but in the ad it even states that the car starts....sheesh! Thanks SoCal & AK!

I would assume that is what is left of a deployed drivers side airbag.

What is the Lojack key? My car has Lojack and I didn't get a key. Just a code to give the police if it is ever stolen.

a "lojack key" is like a key fob; if your car moves without the lojack key inside the vehicle, lojack will notify the police automatically. a great feature available on high end systems, allowing the fuzz to know if your car is stolen even if you don't.

^^ the lojack "key" he's talking about is the "Early Warning System". Its not really a key, rather just a small black unit the size of a car alarm keypad.

if the car moves and that unit is not in the car, it will email/call/fax/ etc up to 7 numbers alerting you ASAP that you car moved without that unit, and then its up to you to call the police from there.

-edit- ment for RCZ, you beat me to it.

That's a pretty cool feature, although I live in Baltimore City where the police don't respond very quickly to actual humans in need of assistance much less having your car call them. My dealer threw in the Lojack, but I'm not sure I really want it. If the car is stolen I don't know if I would want it back. I also have a cool deal on my insurance where if the car is ever stolen or totaled they will replace it with a brand new model year version of the same car. That's the kind of thing that may make you want your car to disappear if there is ever any major changes with the Z.

in canada, there is no "7 number" feature, lojack alerts the police automatically. i should also mention, up here lojack operates under the name "boomerang."

Correct....that's the deployed airbag. But now that it's been mentioned....it does look like a bra.
