My 350Z with the more vertical front end seemed to get more rock chips than the 370z I own now does. I still drive the same way I did before and look for that guy that is going to cut me off in his SUV. The SUV's throw up big rocks as they cut across in front of you that lift off where the lane divider are. I just apply a little brake when I see that coming and give them a little more room. The pebbles/rocks then fall short.
Silver is a easy color to touch up and I want to enjoy my car now. So, I just take my chances. You can have the front end of your car repainted in a couple of years if you get too many chips for a couple hundred dollars. Which in many cases is less than what the guys want to wrap your car now. However, if you do not want to have to deal with that: Wrap the front bumper and half way up the hood and the lower rocker panels just in front of the rear wheels. Have the installer bevel / shave the edges of the film so that the edge is less noticible. This may not stop the rock that comes out of nowhere and chips the paint on your roof or door but, it will keep your car looking chip free if you don't mind the dulled look that the film tend to exhibit on some colors. I have three cars where rock chips would ruin the front of the car. The best thing is to avoid the possibility of getting the chips if you can. Generally, the car in front of you is going to throw that rock up at your bumper or hood so giving a bit more space help to lessen the rock chips. Last edited by Mecinoid; 01-20-2012 at 03:43 AM. |
