Zman, the only detrimental effect of the hubcentric lip breaking off the spacer would be a notable vibration in the steering wheel. You nor your car would be in danger.

I've decided to keep mine as well. It's a great look and feel, with a good weight at the gates. It may be a little smaller than I would've liked, but that's a minimal gripe. Not enough to get rid of it.
