Is this car for me ??

hey everyone ..Ive been researching about what car to get next. I currently drive a 2006 mazda rx8. Although the handling is amazing, the power doesnt quite cut it for me. So my option is either a 370z nismo or a mitsubishi evo x.

I dont have kids so i dont really need a 4 door. But im basically looking for a car thats decent in acceleration and speed with good handling. I know the answers will be a bit biased. I know the potential of the evo can be above and beyond. Im kind of scared the Z's acceleration willl not be enough to satisfy me. Not saying its a slow car but i sorta want something thatll push me to my seat. The z takes the evo in terms of looks for sure but the evos look is slowly growing on me. Thoughts ?!?!

Anyone whos ownedd both pleasee give me info .

Thanks

Z feels a lot slower then it is so be ready to drop some coin on aftermarket to get your rocks off. Theres a ton of threads already on both theses cars.. read them and drive them then buy one or both like me

thanks for the help. Especially coming from an evo x owner.

I test drove the Evo a few times and like said above it feels faster because of that kick when the turbo spools... However personally I'd rather have a Z. Post up some pics either way!

The problem is, regardless of what car you drive, XXX whp becomes "slow" after a few weeks as you get used to it.

Provided the car isn't a total dog to begin wiht, neither the Evo ro Z are "slow" out of the box, you need to look at the other factors.

Handling. Awd vs Rwd. Both cars handle good but hte driving dynamics are different, you may wind up prefering one or the other--know that answer before dropping $$$ on a car.

2 seater or 4 seater. Pretty self explanatory.

Turbo vs n/a. Evo si much cheaper to mod for power if taht is a consideration. That said, bolt ons on the 370z do yield decent results for a v6.

Quality. Evo had "less the satisfactory" imo interior and quality. Can you live with that for a few years? Z is put together better imo.

Gas MPG. Not a priority with cars like this but the Z does have an edge here.

Looks. totally subjective.

Yep, when I drive my car. Often during nice weather, even it feels slow.

I owned a 2010 mazda rx-8 earlier in 2011, then i felt the same way, i wanted more power. And i purchased the Z. Trust me when i tell you this...YOU WILL LOVE YOUR Z more than any car for the price. Go test drive one and just get a feel for one.

The Z is just a more mature, sexier car. All you really need in this car for it to feel faster is an exhaust. My car feels and is plenty quick and this is coming from a motorcycle owner.

thank you for the re assurance kids. I mean the 350 hp the nismo z comes with cant be that much slower the the awd 291 the evo puts out. Of course weight plays a crucial role. But it seems like the z is more of a drivers car ... you become one with the car if that makes sense lol,

The EVO and the 370Z will feel different, but in any "race" except from a dig, stock/stock a well-driven 370Z is going to beat a well-driven EVO unless you are on ice.

Saying the z feels faster than the rx8 is like saying your the most in shape person at a jenny craig meeting..... Don't get me wrong, they handle great, but the z will feel like a ROCKET after the mazda

^ dont know why i said "kids" in that post lol. But anyways. Ya i guess im going with the z nismo. Also mitsubishis service isnt the greatest from what ive heard so ya lol.

Cristobal09 01-08-2012 10:34 AM

I test drove both about 2 months back. It was REALLY tough to decide which one I liked. The performance of the evo, I felt was quicker cause of the turbo boost that kicked in. The 4 seats is nice if you want to bring friends, so you throw that out the window if you get a Z. But I loved the low stance and better looks (the rear of the evo is just hideousd imo) of the Z. The interior of the Z was also garbage. I dont need an Audi quality interior, but that interior just plain sucks in the Evo. The Z's I felt was leaps and bound better when paired with the GPS.
The determining factor for me was the better interior in the Z, and the fact that the Mitsubishi dealership wouldnt budge on price, when the Nissan dealership was able to knock off about 4 grand.

Any reason why the NISMO instead of a loaded Touring/Sport?
