Lack of winter is almost WORSE than winter

I stored my Z in early December, since I have a relative with an open garage space who was willing to take it. It's now residing about 2 hours away so I can't just get it out any time. Well it turns out, winter in Iowa is nonexistent. I have had frost on my winter car's windshield a handful of times and it has never really snowed or been icy. All I can think is.... I COULD BE DRIVING THE Z. Today it's a high of 55 and sunny, no salt on the roads. It's killing me! Anyone else having this problem or are you midwesterners still driving?

kenchan 01-05-2012 12:58 PM

dont worry. you will be clobbered by snow within 10days. :)

that is my estimation for my area... it's not going to just snow. it will blizzard with tornados and earthquakes and such.

Boy I hope so, it will make me feel better about the Z and also... snowboarding!!!

This is punishment for the Iowan's support of Mitt Romney.

TerribleONE 01-05-2012 01:18 PM

Agreed.. In Aspen to snowboard and I should or brought my dirtbike..

Pelican170 01-05-2012 01:25 PM

ha, ive been saying the same thing. At least they felt the need to sand the roads:confused:

UNKNOWN_370 01-05-2012 01:34 PM

I thought I"d be garaging the car for winter which is already short in tx. But it hasn't happened yet. Lol. The lowets we've been for a high is 39 but that's like one day out of a 7 day week. The rest has been 50-70 degrees.

Liquid_G 01-05-2012 01:35 PM

Same here man.. Put the Z away and took off collision insurance after thanksgiving and even went out and bought a 99 Jeep Cherokee winter beast, based on predictions for Chicago winter to be even worse than last year..

Its gonna be 50 fking degrees here tomorrow.. :shakes head:

Ouch. At least you're probably enjoying the Jeep though.

I might have to put my Summer tires back on for another 10 days

m4a1mustang 01-05-2012 02:07 PM

My winter wheels have been waiting around in the garage... Normally they'd have been on a month ago. Avg. temps are down enough to put them on this weekend, though. They say we're supposed to have a very rough winter.

Apoc370z 01-05-2012 03:17 PM

Winter? Whats that?

Notsud 13 01-05-2012 03:24 PM

memorylasts 01-05-2012 03:29 PM

Yeah I'm a little north of ya, I tell ya one thing though, I was coming back home from holiday in cleveland, and i am glad that the expressways were snow free.

I still remember the blizzard last year. no power...too much snow to snow blow, and shovelling didn't do sh!t. So I guess that the no snow thing I am okay with for a little bit longer.

http://www.thesportsbank.net/core/wp...2/lsd-snow.jpg

Cuz it could like this again

Jsolo 01-05-2012 10:35 PM

I don't know about the next ten days --- at least not here in chicago. I think we'll be ok through next tuesday or wednesday, then the flood gates open Chicago, IL 60640 Month Weather Report - AccuWeather.com. But, who knows.. This can all change by sunday :)

I would not be one bit upset if we didn't get an inch of snow this winter.

EazyD 01-05-2012 10:47 PM

We had snow in October. Which never happens. Snow tires went on.
Now we haven't had snow since then. Which never happens. Fine by me.

Glad I sold my Jeep last year and got winter tires. I still enjoy going to work and the days are getting longer :)

nmjaxx9 01-06-2012 01:35 AM

This is why im glad I can store my Z in my own garage where I can still access/take it out whenever I like. Which I have already done a couple times.

I could slap you for typing that! ;) damn internets... :gtfo2:

Winter is just fine so far. I'm crossing my fingers for 3 more months like this. You can have your blizzards, just keep them away from me! :rofl2:

My situation is very similar to yours. I had my 40th stored in a friends garage about two hours away in early December. I've been driving my 95 Civic in the meantime. Although I could be driving the Z, I think its good to keep it out of the elements for a few months as well as keep the miles down.

Cyberium 01-06-2012 02:30 PM

Same here... we had a little snow around November and I put my 370z away. It hasn't snowed since and we've had like the warmest winters I can remember.

Sucks ;(

WhiskeyHotel 01-06-2012 02:33 PM

Yeah, it's been in the high 60's in Okie City this week. I had to break out the Z for a few days. The wifey even went topless in her Miata one day - sorry, no pics. ;)

MitzMN 01-07-2012 07:17 AM

I hear you guys. I stored mine in the beginning of November. I wasn't about to get into the same situation I had last year, where around the 1st of December, I had to have people slowly push it into the spare garage, it was so icy -- and I have a very small door and it's a very weird swing to get into it.

In Minnesota, all but a couple of days since, that car surely could have been out on the road. The thing about waiting for snow and ice, too, though, is how do you get it pristine clean at home so you can store it if there's snow (and grit, sand and salt) on the ground? Can't do that with a frozen hose. And if you clean it at the car wash, you drive it home and it's all full of crap again.

Oh well, it's safe. That's some peace of mind, I guess.

I remember when I had my 300ZX Turbo -- can't even remember the year anymore -- that I had to drive year round because it was my only car. Wow, was that an adventure. But I was much more adventurous 25 years ago.

_ace_ 01-07-2012 02:26 PM

I did snow tires with my S2000 and hated that!

With the Z, we have a third garage spot with our old AWD Honda Element. I drive the Z every time the weather is good, and I just take the Element when it gets ugly outside. It's so much better!

Jeffblue 01-07-2012 02:42 PM

this is why i decided to keep my 300zx here in the garage. its like 60 degrees, just went out and ripped it with the T-Tops off :driving:

PapoZalsa 01-07-2012 11:08 PM

Some of you will be complaining when is snowing and freezing ur arses!

Plus can't drive the Z for months.

I hate Winter so I don't complain about this weather. ;)

You have a 300ZX?

You lucky dawg. I had the most beautiful gun metal blue, five speed turbo with T-tops. That car was just a scream and a dream. I loved taking the tops off and turning the tunes up as high as they'd go, hit that stiffer suspension button, and scream on down the windiest, hilliest road I could find (Highway 66), taking corners at the fastest I could take them. Upshifting to 4th on the straightaways, downshifting to 3rd around the corners, and winding it out again once I was through those was pure joy. I used to say it was better than sex and you didn't have to sleep on the wet spot.

I loved my 300zx turbo. I really miss my T-tops.

A story about my old Z and winter. One day I went to work with the Z and it started snowing, and it kept snowing, and snowing, and snowing all day. At 5:00, I went out to get into my car and the snow was higher than the bottom of the door. I crawled and prayed my way home, which was only a little over a mile, but it might as well have been 30 for how long it took me to get there. So I have alley access to my garage, and I'm in the middle of the block. The streets had been plowed once during the day, but the alley had not, and I just got bogged down about four houses way. There must have been 10 inches of snow. My brother and his friend had to come and take my little snowblower and clear the alley with that and push me into the garage.

hahah that sounds fun. my stereo doesn't work but i just ordered a new headunit, should be here any day. can't wait to do exactly what you were talking about in summer though :driving:

why'd you sell it?

homeryansta 01-08-2012 11:20 AM

this year has been the mildest winter in MN as well. We're talking about MN here people! I was bbq-ing the other day in January!!!!!

ZInferno0248 01-08-2012 02:39 PM

It has been ridiculously mild here in Wisconsin as well.
Bought a 07' Audi S4 and put blizzaks on it. AWD, tons of power, almost as fun as the Z but in the snow...

one problem... no snow. Mildest winter I've ever seen, but don't worry, Wisconsin still puts out tons of salt... just in case :(

onzedge 01-08-2012 03:15 PM

Today it is a sunny, warm 63 degrees.

Why'd I sell it? A couple of reasons. First of all, I sold it nearly 20 years ago. Living in Minnesota, it had started to rust in the wheel wells, the injectors needed replacing and there was a strong odor of gasoline, which I hated, and it was no longer the beauty it was when I first bought it. It lost its luster -- kinda like I have now, 20 years later! ha ha ha

Gawd, I loved that car. Even more than I love my 370, truth be told.

Yep, Minnesota here, too. Took my dog AND my parrot out for a walk yesterday, it was so warm. Remember last year? It was so blasted cold and snow fell once and never went away again. So strange, this winter. But I've only had to have the blower out once this year, so I better stop complaining.
