Have you driven a 370Z? Let alone a 350Z?

They have a lot of power especially for someone who just got their license. Are you prepared to pay for maintenance? If something goes wrong after the warranty is up? Do you have any mechanical knowledge?
He wants a Nismo 370z. I think it will cost more like $35k to $40k. I think maintenance will most likely be taken cared of by the elders. Man I wish I could've saved up $40k dollars to buy a brand new sports car back in high school working over the summers. I guess teens these days just make too much dough in summer jobs.

Sometimes I curious about how could they have such a sum of money to buy this kind of car too, but they are not asking our opinions on how to make/spend money, so I'll just say what the heck.

If they screwed the car, well, sorry, hope no one get injured, and see you after another 4 summerzzzzz.

LOL

Gimme a break! I wanted to sleep with Brooke Shields when I was a teenager, but I was realistic and in over my head so I targeted a cheerleader instead. Your cheerleader should be a 2005 Honda Civic!

Considering your age you should start off with something cheap until you get you can gain driving experience.

Buy a beater rwd car and learn on that. I recommend a 98-02 6-speed F-body. You will learn things from it at a much lower cost than with a 370Z. Drive it a few years, then sell it for minimal depreciation unless it's wrecked or something, then buy your 370Z. To me, my LS1 car felt almost identical to the 370Z in acceleration.

^ Awesome, and good timing.

OP - I bought a used 350z in high school and loved it. It wasn't terribly expensive, had plenty of power, and was a joy to drive. Having graduated college I now drive a 370z and can say without a doubt, the 370z is the better car. If you buy a 350 you'd likely regret it every time you see a 370z. The sport brakes are phenomenal, the car is better balanced, weighs about the same as the 350z (but sports better safety equipment), and gets slightly better gas mileage.

If you consider yourself a responsible and disciplined driver, there should be no reason not to get this car but I'd suggest buying used to save some cash. No need for the Nismo unless you really love the look of it. Performance wise its no different; slap an exhaust on a stock one and you'll be making more power than the nismo with a better sound.

Just because a car is fast doesn't mean its dangerous. A shitty car can go fast too... it just takes longer and doesn't brake as quickly.

Question

Who's paying for the insurance on the car. Him or mom and dad?

Who cares? If your parents were going to let something like OP is talking about happen, would you have turned it down?

"No, mom, dad, I don't want a $40K car for my first car. I don't think it's responsible. I would like a $2000 beater like my friends all have."

Riiiiiiighhhht....

Some of us had nice stuff, some of us had beaters. I had both beaters and decent stuff, and now that I'm on my own I can afford nicer stuff. Either way, why begrudge someone for doing the exact same thing you probably would in their place?

My thinking on it was. He can buy the car by himself. Did he check into insurance to see how much it's going to cost him. Or if it goes on his parents insurance. He's a first time driver with NO time behind the wheel. So he's going to get hit big time.
