Sounds electrical. First suspects would be forward O2 sensors, coilpacks seem less likely unless they were damaged by water penetration (unlikely unless you power wash the engine bay).

Any update on this? Did they send an engineer to check out the car?

Got my Z in march 2011, ever since the check engine light comes on pretty much for no reason. I literally took the car to the dealership more then 7 times. And they cant not figure out why it's doing that. The car is pulling a Multiple cyclinder misfire code. But the car isn't actually doing that. So I take it to the dealership and they really dont know but the car is still under warranty. but its getting close to being out of warranty and they haven't figured it out yet. Last they had my car in for a week, and had a Nissan engineer working on the car. they said they changed my ECM, but engine light still came on after that. frustrated. dont know what to do!?!?????

Keep a written record of every time you go, if you wanna try lemon, it varies in each state, so familiarize yourself with lemon laws there. You need to show that they tried, and failed to fix the car... Good luck.

:iagree:

Was your Z purchased new in March of 2011? Or did you buy it used? I don't know the rules for your state, but I don't believe that lemon laws usually apply to used cars. I only bring it up because your sig says your Z is a 2009.

Here in Illinois, for instance, you must be the original owner and have documented proof that the dealer has attempted & failed to correct a specific problem more than 4 times OR that the car has been out-of-service for more than 30 calendar days within the first 12 months or 12,000 miles of ownership.

Check your state lemon laws. They're easily found on Google. They're also printed in your maintenance booklet that came with the Z (by law). If you think you qualify, then contact an attorney in your area that specializes in lemon laws. He/She will be able to offer advice on how you can proceed.

My CEL went off and I needed a new MAFS. The light went on two weeks later and off two weeks after that. Very annoying.

could be bad gas or to much ethanol in the gas , gas tank need to be drain and refilled , and monitor the ethanol content with a scantool.

So basically all the engineers have done so far is run test, gather data, supposely they replaced 2 ecu sensors, and fuel injectors. Now they want the car back today to "run another test" and gather data. My advisor at the nissan dealership thinks that their going to replace the ECM next. So will see. I wish they could just figure this **** out! I'm tired of driving an Altima. lol

LMBmikeZ 02-13-2012 10:11 AM

I thought they had said they already changed your ECM?

yea thats what i thought, and when questioned it, my advisor told me they changed a sensor??? So now the car is at the dealership once again being tested! I feel like I have no idea what they are doing to my car. They really could be telling me anything! :shakes head:

What dealer is your car at? Sounds like you need to take it somewhere else.

Have they still not taken a look at ignition system components?

sonic370 02-14-2012 08:39 PM

I'm no tech so can't help you there. but imo it's getting close to making lemonade. about 8 years ago we had to return a neon, don't ask wife wanted one. anyway they put on some kind of computer scanner and she drove it for
a week like that and after that they threw their hands up and told her to pick
out a new one the lot. good luck with your Z
