Oil Temp .....too LOW on the 370Z?

After a 20-minute commute (backroads + highway), my temp is 170 degrees. Is that too cool? Is there any such thing? Cold outside and running Mobil1 synthetic. Thanks. I know

160 F to 170 F about the bare minimum to drive it hard. Between 180 F to 200 F is ideal for wailing on it. Acceptable but not ideal is about 230 F - 240 F; 250 F+ gets iffy if running to redline, and over 260 F the ECU will go into limp mode.

Sounds about right. With temps < 40F, my oil gauge takes a while to get up to 180 with casual driving from my experience. I am running PP but honestly this is because of the air temp, not your preferred engine lube.

Cooler air is helping with heat exchange and that lump of metal takes longer to get toasty. I certainly don't take it above 6K when cold...but once it starts moving above 150 nothing wrong with mid range torque goodness.

Typically, I don't even drive above 2k RPM until ~180 degrees. I'm a little OCD though.

How high do you usually shift until it warms up?

It's fine... but you could go up to 3,000 RPM when cold and be OK.

Spearfish did a cold-start and cold-drive video a while back that showed how high the oil pressure can get when the car is cold and under even a very light load.

It's a little annoying when I can drive all the way to work and not have my oil temp reach 180. I have no time to have a little fun with the Z! Where's that overheating when you need it

Commutes like that suck. They are really hard on the car. You should see how gunky engines look that are only started and driven a few minutes then shut off... It's icky.

Though I like this commute better than the one to school. No traffic FTW!

I run my cold engine until the rpm's start to come down on their own, and into gear. I try not to stomp on it until the temp is 180.

How long should warm up be in winter?

Honestly as long as it takes to get the engine above 180 degrees.
