Default Consumer Reports...

Looks like the 370Z stops shorter than my Z06 in both dry and wet, accelerates 0-30 in the same amount of time, changes double-lanes at a higher speed, and has the worst possible rating that Consumer Reports can hand out for reliability.

All of this makes me say...wtf? and is the 370Z really such a pile of crap (least reliable sporty car was the title it won, I believe)? That had not been my impression up to this point.

Yes.

In all seriousness, this has been brought up many times before: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-w...ty-rating.html

I wouldn't trust Consumer Reports to rate a Pet Rock.

Along with Consumer Report's ratings some others magazines has been discussed in different threads. Most of them just rate the cars in some areas.

However, what were the areas tested for reliability? If they were brakes, higher temps and/or paint we know about that but I don't think we owen a piece of crap.

Even that I own a Z I'm not bias, it has it defects like any other car, But a lot of other cars that I have own has been rated crappy too.

Yes all 370Zs explode within the first 4 years of ownership.

Brakes, Engine, Transmission all got shat on. Same for body integrity. Trim and paint got tore up, too.

Basically...everything but the climate control system, which received glowing marks!

Jeez. Looks like they have had a hard-on for the car...forever.

Does anyone have REAL numbers? I want to know PPH, or similar. Everything I read on here over the last year or so has led me to believe that it does have issues, but certainly comparable to corvette, mustang, and porsche, if not better.

They probably got provided a "Lemon" to rate.

The 370z is by far the worst car ever built in automotive history. Honestly, Nissan should be sued for this and buy back all 370z sold to consumers.

on the actual reliability issues, there's really only the trans issue, diff issue, and oil consumption, which the majority of the forum seems to indicate are no longer issues.

CR lumps in things like ECU whine, crappy paint, creaks/rattles, etc into their ratings, which aren't actually reliability issues and cause the car to score notably lower for things that arguably aren't real issues.

I wrote a thread about this once and I was pretty much being painted as a fanboy. Lol. I even had True Delta's "real life" repair statistics. According to true Delta, the miata was the best, the Z came in second. We had 4 out of 100 vehicles in repair. The miata had 3 in 100. The genesis coupe and mustang were in the 50's out of 100. The camaro and challenger were slightly lower.

Some thought reliability was a affected by an early 370z forum protest concerning oil consumption and oil overheating issues? Maybe? But it does seem consumer reports have a hard-on for the car. Everyone I know with Z's and G's over the last 2 generations have had virtually problem free vehicles. Even going further. Nissan is the highest owned car amongst my peers aside from chevy. All my nissan compatriots all seem to have exceptional reliability. The only year of car I can recall having some issues were 2003 altimas and the 2003-2008 maximas. On both these cars. Problems began after 150k miles. So is that truely unreliable???

Anyway. Consumer reports always seems to find a way to bypass known issues on certain car brands like toyota, honda and hyundai. There reviews were heavily scrutinized in the past during the toyota recalls. Hmmmm? Consumer reports, corporate hacks???? I think so!

The crappy thing is that LOTS of people put a lot of faith in what they have to say. So if they get it wrong or right it usually has a big impact on whatever it is that they are rating!

Like one forum member said i wouldn't trust consumer reports.
unless your looking for a washing machine or a dvd player...

besides how can you really rate a car that just came out in 09.
FYI had my 09 since day one. total check engine lights 1 for a new gas cap.
just hit 34,000 its a DD. no rattles, inside and outside has held up very well.

i know that there has been some issues from some members but some of those should be expected if you track a car.

overall imho the Z has held up well. plus this car will not looked dated as it
ages. like the 350 does.

I've said time and time again that almost all cars these days are very reliable. Manufacturing processes are very advanced. Tolerances are very tight. Quality control is generally very good.

I think what a lot of people seem to forget is that a lot of manufacturers share suppliers. Lots of parts on my 5.0 are made by suppliers that make parts for the 370Z... Tokico for example.
