Navigation Questions
Hello All,
I recently decided to downgrade, be economical and get an Altima from previously owning a 350z and 370z. Well, I regret it and want back in the Z community. I am extremely interested in getting a used 40th Anniversary. Unforutnately, none of them made in the US come with Navigation apparantly. I LOVED the Navigation feature I had in my last 370Z, but my mouth waters at the color of the 40th Aniversary edition as well as fact that it is limited edition. If I decide to get a 40th Anni and pass on the Navigation (since unavailable), what options do I lose? I'm pretty confident that bluetooth for phone still exists. But what about bluetooth streaming from your phone? Is this feature available without the Navi? What about voice recognition to dial phone numbers? How about the USB interface in the console? Does this go away without Navi? Lots of questions, probably some features I am not thinking about. If anyone could list what features are lost when not getting Navi, it would be great. My biggest concern is bluetooth streaming--very handy feature I loved! Or does anyone know how to get your hands on a 40th from Canada? I read they came with Navi. |
One other question somewhat unrelated. I've noticed in different pictures of 370z's that the climate control knobs are sometimes different designs in some pictures than others. Why is this, being the same year Z? Some have the smaller more attractive (IMO) knobs, where some others have the largers knobs? Is this related to having or not having Navi?

Why not getting a used 40th, and replace the OEM audio with a double-din Nav-Audio??
Problem fixed. Unless you need everything OEM.... |
No usb input in the console or anywhere else. No bluetooth audio streaming. Will do bluetooth phone calls though with voice recognition. Aux input on front of headunit.

But if I did consider a double din, could this work with the Bose speakers? I've heard that Bose speakers have to have a Bose head unit to work, and vice versa. |

No bluetooth audio streaming and USB, it does has a AUX in so you can plug in a MP3 player. That why I suggest a double-din aftermarket NAV, thus you have the NAV, bluetooth audio streaming, voice call, USB, DVD player, AUX in, some of those are IPOD/IPHONE compatible therefore you can video stream from your Iwhatever. If you must have OEM, do a search on the Audio section of this forum, you may be able to find some thread about putting a OEM NAV into a base. Aftermarket DOES WORK with BOSE system speaker, you just have to have the correct harness. |
Retrofitting OEM NAV is not cost effective. HVAC, wiring, all sorts of things are different. This is one of the main reasons we walked away from 40 AE's when shopping.
We thought NAV finishes the dash vs. the 'option you didn't get' look of the cubby. Time/money/labor spent on trying to do it...you are better off getting a car with NAV. Yeah, sucks for AE's in the US but its just one color option: there are others that are still great :) - b |
Great stuff. Thanks everyone.
