I'll hazard one, too. Detuned VG30DETT? I have no idea of engine specs in the class, so I'm talking right out my ***.

It would be cool if they had actually FI'd the VQ37 for this car, and did it was setup that was reliable enough to be tracked. i doubt it though.

The GT-R will be competing in GT3, while the two 370Z's will be competing in GT4. The Juke-R prototype is supposed to be the pace car!

I think running in GT4 they would have to run the stock engine size. For the GT3 GT-R I think they ditched the TT in favor of a RWD V8. Could be wrong though.

pretty sure that is correct. i think the FIA R35 race car was/is a nicely built 500ish hp VK56 and RWD.

Is a GT4-spec build ... 2010 cars were prepared by RJN Motorsports in the UK - not clear whether these are the same, but RJN facilitated the PlayStation marketing exercise in 2010, so likely to still be them.

Engine specs are steel crank (suspect but don;t know whether it was sourced from Cosworth), based on VQ35 block with Steel (Carillo?) rods and bespoke forged pistons. Using ported VQ30 heads with enlarged valves and runing 13.5 to 13.8:1 compression on FIA 106-octane (RON, not MON) fuel (same as F1 fuel), engine delivers ~400hp at 7500rpm.

RJN buitl a GT3 version of the 350Z in 2007/8 and simply put the engine into the new 370Z shell for 2009 season when the 370Z was announced. They may have upgraded to VQ37 block by now but nothing in the public domain suggests this has been the case.

Engines originally built by Graeme dal Smith who used to own IES Engineering in the UK, but he sold out of that several years ago. He has Nissan motorpsorts knowledge going back to the 1990's

NISMO Japan link for mods items is here:

NISMO | VQ35DE Engine Parts

The trick to getting hi-power is hi-compression which means you need trick (F1 type) fuels.

yea thinking about it now, it would actually surprise me if they used a VQ37VHR motor to do a race car build. the VVEL system really adds a lot of heat to the oil. it would almost be counter productive compared to the oil cooling system needed for a straight up race car. i guess it could be done but it makes sense to use the simpler motor if it makes the power needed more reliably (in theory)

probably something similar to this:

Nissan VQ35 Short Block (3 - 5L) - Nissan Engine Assemblies - Cosworth USA

but like you said, with much higher 13-14:1 compression

Your are correct re VVEL ... that's why a VQ37 block/crank/rods with the VQ30 heads is a good idea as these heads don't have VVEL, but the earlier style varable valve timing only. Details are on the NISMO JP website. They even offer cams actuators with more aggressive ramp angles to increase the valve overlap.

From what I read there won't be a live broadcast but they will instead produce a highlight show. The show won't air until Feburary, and not sure what channel. Possibly ESPN unless they sell it to Speed.

Nice detective work. I've been trying to get an answer out of Nissan for a week.

Found the official entry list. Yes, the two 370Z's are being fielded by RJN of the UK. No engine specs but they list their displacement as 3.8L, so they may either be running the GT-R block or a custom crank shaft.

The 1 GT-R entry is by JRM, also out of the UK. Displacement is listed as 3.8L as well so this looks like a traditional turbo set up.

Interesting. I doubt it would be from increasing bore since I doubt there's much left between the cylinders. You guys should work for Scotland Yard.
