370z manual grind?
I have read a lot about grinding and bad syncros here, but I wonder if its an issue, or just the people who have had issues being vocal while the majority without are silent. It's bugging me enough that I'm considering the auto : /

I wouldn't shy away from the manual for that reason. My 350Z had cold syncro issues and it seems to be similar to what the 370Z cars are experiencing. I put a little prolong tranny oil in my 350Z and it helped. I also installed a B&M short shifter and it helped too.
I chose a auto this time because the Z has become my DD and the traffic is true stop and go around here. I just leave it in auto for my 1hr commute, turn on the tunes and life is good again without having to work after I get off work. Take a close look at the S7 Auto.... Spend some time test driving one. Like a couple of hours. You'll be impressed. I find that coming of the line is left hand turn with my right hand on the floor stick and tapping it into second then bringing my hands to the steering wheel and using the paddle shifters to go through 3,4 and maybe 5th if I need it give my one heck of a quick get away without tire smoke or anything. It's amazing. At the same time it's smooth throughout the whole ordeal unlike the loading and unloading the a manual car has doing the same. Upshift is the corners at 1g are difficult to keep feet planted etc... in a S7 your left foot can be left on the dead pedal and your firm in your seat... The auto has been proven to be quicker 0-60 and as far as I can tell it doesn't short you on fun unless you just leave it in drive. Sometimes that is a good thing. Like I said don't let the grind issue scare you away from a manual especially with the rev matching .... But, please test drive an auto. It will impress you if you spend a little time with it. Don't forget it takes time to adjust to your driving style so.... drive it hard and drive it easy to get a good feel for it. Enjoy the ride.... |

I drove an auto, but did not give it time to learn or drive it hard.
If you spin the car in an a7, how do you save it? With a manual I just stab the clutch in. |

Hey, i misclicked on my vote and put that I have had issues. In reality I have had absolutely no problems with my transmission, it's a 2011 fyi.

As you said in your op, its the fact that the people with problems are vocal about it (I know I would be), while those without problems don't go starting threads like "Help! My transmission works well!"
Mine has been perfect 2010. Also, unless you're just a die hard manual fan and will not have as much fun with an auto box no matter how good is, get the 7-speed. Its the best auto I've ever driven. That being said, I still went with the 6speed.

I know. I don't want to pass up the manual just because of a few dozen guys who had issues, but at the same point, I don't want a problemchild. Wish I could find out what Nissan's replacement pph etc. Is on that.

I kind of agree with Mandigo's and your opinions. People who are having issues tend to be vocal about them while people who aren't don't really say much. I know this is an apples to oranges comparison, but when I worked in a health clinic as a medic, 90% of the comments people took the time to submit was when they weren't happy about something. The other 10% were the ones who took time to give us a positive comment. I read through the negative posts here and figure that even though there a quite a few threads about this and that breaking, a vast majority of the Z population doesn't have that issue (minus the oil temp issue lol).

Honestly, I wouldn't know. I would say contact NNA but I doubt you would get the kind of answer you want from them.

First off topic post about which is better auto or Manual?
It's getting LOCKED! Their already Plenty of threads on that topic! STAY ON TOPIC!! From seeing some of the problems with the Manual in the 09's I would think those issue's have gotten ironed out if they're really was a big problem by Nissan But I don't think it's a problem NOW that people should shy away from the Manual. IMO |

I have not sorry, but from reading on here I have seen that there is not to much of an issue now like back a couple of years ago. We all know you may a very small percentage of problems still just from a production stand point but not to warrant to avoid getting one. You got a good thread here.
