So how do you get back in the car if the fob dies (noob question for future purchase) you could drive the car but what if it dies and car is locked :ughdance:

kenchan 06-27-2013 01:46 PM

there is a secret button but you have to buy the car first to find out.

JARblue 06-27-2013 01:59 PM

the fob comes apart to reveal a key which can be used on the driver side door...

kenchan 06-27-2013 02:00 PM

I bought my Z in September of '09 and just replaced the battery a couple of months ago. I noticed that pressing the unlock button on the handle did not always unlock the door, replacing the battery solved that. However, the longevity of the battery is probably because I rarely use the fob buttons to lock or unlock the doors or roll down the windows. When I exit the car I thumb the lock button on the inside of the door to the lock position out of habit and when I walk up to the locked car I'm close enough that pressing the unlock button on the door works.
If you are pressing the fob buttons constantly out of habit, your battery life will be less.

One of mine quit at about the 4 year mark.

Three and a half years here. Obviously, it's a function of how many times you press the buttons on the fob.

battery indicator came on today, iv had it for 2.5 yrs so looks like its time to replace the battery. I have over 50,000 miles.

It lasts until it dies... :D

Ahem, anyway, my first battery lasted well over 2 years. I'm on my second now, I guess it's about 2 years old.

First battery lasted a year and a half but I've been ripping through a battery every two months since... Ordered a new key thinking that might be the problem.
