Z Back to Dealership after 6 days...
Novemeber 16th i came out to leave for work (Friday) and voila, my car wont start, break wont engage. The Key Light was turned on (insturment panel). I quickly searched "370z wont turn on" and ofcourse, first few entries bring you straight to this site (love you guys.) So, i got it towed to the dealership and it took them till the 29th to get it fixed (13 days). They replaced the DCM and car battery, that was it. They said they were having Difficulties finding the root of the problem.
For the last 6 days everything was fine then when im ready to leave work again yesterday... WOW, the same damn thing is wrong with it again. Had to have it towed, rode with the towe truck to the dealership. I was furious. I tried explaining to them the first time it was the IPDM or steering wheel lock. I dont know what the heck they were doing for 13 days, but alas.. here it is in the shop again. What opinions of my situation do you guys have? At least Nissan has payed for everything except the car battery. 2009 370z, Warranty is out January 1st 2012. I love this car, but i def havent enjoyed the hassle the last month. (not to mention just got new tires for 950 big ones). |
yep, probably the steering lock assembly. it comes and goes...like edmunds roughed up their GTR's steering column and the lock assembly released and was able to start their test car again. you can read (they have a short vid too) about it in their insideline blog.

Check out this thread, includes the part # they had to replace.

It's probably a good idea to actually print out any info you have. SAs like to assume that people don't know what they're talking about when it comes to diagnosing problems, and if you've got a tech that hasn't been through this mess before, he'll be scratching his head.

Lame man, always sad to see someone without their car... Best of luck!

Mine is a 2009 370z Manual with sports package. Warranty is out on march 7th 2012 |
I haven't had this symptom on my Z, knock on wood... But I've done research on it before just browsing around on here. I would definitely say its the steering wheel lock. OP, type that into the search and you'll see several people with the same condition, dealership replaces the locking mechanism and everything is good to go. Good luck!

It seems like everyone on these forums who is experiencing this all have 09's. The service manager called me yesterday morning, said he would update me before the day is over. Here it is 12 pm the next day and I still havent heard anything. Writing a lengthy email atm. Sigh. Once this actually gets fixed I have to decide whether or not im going to get the extended warranty. Going to try to find a way they can give it to me at a very, very low price given the circumstances.

if you complain hard enough you will get something. My bro got a free extended warranty with a Benz. If not lemon law that ishhh.
