Really Pissed!!
I hope I am posting this in the right forum but here goes.
So I am at dinner Saturday night with my wife and two other couples. One of the guys there I consider a great friend but I wanted to share just a little of our conversation over dinner that night. I won't bore you with all of the conversation but let me start by saying I am a new Z owner for two weeks now. I bought a 2009 and absolutely love it. Let me also say I 38 years old and am 6 foot 1 and about 240lbs. My purchase of the Z came up in the conversation at dinner somehow and my "good friend" proceeds to say that the Z is a girls car.I have to tell you this kind of got under my skin immediately and the reason I am posting this is because I have thought about it ever since. I am the type of guy that is happy for you no matter what. I was brought up to not say anything if you have nothing nice to say. Your purchase could be the most hideous thing ever but I will congratulate you on it if it makes you happy. He also went on to say that the Bose surround sound I bought is over priced and not worth the money but thats for another forum. When he commented on the Z being a girls car I let it go as to not make a scene at dinner but again I am posting because I am really bothered by the whole thing. Sorry for venting on here guys but I have to ask two questions. Does a real friend really say these things? What would your response to this be? Thanks in advance everyone for letting me vent!! |
What does he drive? I tease my friends all the time, maybe he was joking.. maybe he is jealous and is looking to make himself feel better by finding defects on something he can't have. Don't listen to him, the Z is NOT a girls car
|
just let it go.
http://www.postcaption.com/uploads/2...7942_full1.jpg if it bothers you, just be glad you don't have an s2k, or worse, a miata. you can always join in on the joking, and it generally kills the fun for most people. you will always run into people that will make comments like that...the less you let it bother you, the better. |
Not a girls car, but a hot chick driving a hot car (the Z for example) is 2
|
The 370Z is pure sex! It is hot, loud, and rough!
|
Most of the time when people bash what others have, it's out of jealousy.
|
BJ -- an impressive first post, indeed. Let it go.
|
he's jelly. and he's probably trying to get a rise out of you. If my good friend said that I'd call him out on it and tell him he's full of ****. then hug it out bro

Some people are just ignorant or jealous or both and you have to accept that..Have you spoken to him about it?> Maybe he was just joking...if not he is really rude and ignorant and you have to ask what kind of friend he is. IMO |
One, I hope you bought the car for how you feel about it and not for what your friends would think abut it. And second, if my friends think negatively about something i did or bought, i wouldn't get mad if they told me so or teased me about it. They are my friends, I want to hear what they think, good or bad. I don't have to agree.
|
That happened to me one time and this is how I fixed him

Thanks for all the replies guys. Guess I should not let it bother me but I am just not that way with friends. If your happy I am happy and it takes some nerve to voice your negativity about my purchases. When I start getting my bills sent to your address then your opinion may count!! Gotta tell ya it will be quite some time before he gets a ride in my girly Z......LOL
|
Before I bought my Z I was looking at Honda S2K's, which my brother said were total chick cars. I'm glad I eventually went with the Z, but not because he said it was a girl car. I can see how the S2K could be perceived as a chick car, but how on earth can someone think the same about the 370Z?

As far as it being a girls car? Lol. Any guy without a sports car call them girl cars until they own one. Usually guys like that tell you a real sports car is a muscle car. In other words he don't know sh1t. Lol. |

Ha he wouldn't make it past first swing. His family would be singin' "Its so hard, to say good-bye to yesterday!" Lmfao... Dudes that act crazy humble up real quick when you give them a quick dose of there own medicine multiplied by 3. |
one of my friends told me its "a poor mans sports car".
I carefully considered this purchase after driving a bmw/audi/corvette etc.. I realize that the Z is an affordable(I say this even though I just spent 800 dollars on tires), exciting, and exhilarating car. My pride was possibly hurt for a second, but on the way home i put the windows down and just enjoyed the exhaust note. all is forgotten..... |

I know what Steve would have done (assuming he was in VA) |
What does he drive? He also obviously doesn't have any taste in cars.
Plus those that care and love you are blunt and straight forward. So, don't take it the wrong way if he was honest with you. |
The Z is not a "chick car".
If you do a quick look at the members' list, or show up to a couple car meets, you'll see this car's buyer population is as "sausage fest" as it gets. Does that make you feel better or worse about your purchase decision? :ugh2: |
Had a kind of similar situation happen with me. Me and one of my friends were going back and forth about the next car we were going to buy for months. I wanted to buy the Z and he wanted a 335i. He kept talking all this sh1t about how the Z is just a Nissan and the BMW was way better. He got really jealous when I got my Z and he got nothing. His little brother got a 350Z and he starting talking sh1t about how it was so much better and faster than the 370Z. To shut him up, I challenged him to a race at the drag strip. He wasn't even going to drive it himself, he was gonna have his little brother drive it for him. The night before he made up some excuse about his car needing to be repaired and backed out. The next day, I set the 2nd fastest stock 1/4 mile time in the 370Z :bowrofl:
He still likes to talk sh1t about my car, but now it's only as a joke. |

That was in Vegas years ago on Las Vegas boulevard and Sahara. I would have ran his *** over too.

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how wrong it is. If the z is such a chick car, then why dont you see more girls driving them? I know i have never seen a girl driving a Z... Also just stick it out man, there is more to life then letting ford explorer driving people with car opinions get you down... My friends give me **** 24/7 about my car, they talk nothing but sh*t about it... Its lame i know, but one day i realized the car makes me happy and nothing anyone can say about will change that. Not to mention i can leave them in the dust at ease. Take him for a spin in it, get the car going sideways and scare the piss out of him. Then politely ask him if he still thinks its a girl car... The one friend i took for a ride that taked so much trash doesn't talk anymore.... period ;-)
|
Chick car?!?... It's Z not a mustang! I kid, I kid.... Sorry couldn't pass that one up :)
|
The Z is not a girls car. If anything I always see chicks driving a majority of 335's, Porsche Caymans/Carreras, Mercedes, Infiniti's, Mustangs, etc. Girls drive every car so that makes no sense and the Z is not one where girls are a majority. Your friend is a definition of a hater. That comment was unecessary being you just bought the car and that's not something you say. He probably drives a P.O.S. You shouldn't worry but actually laugh because he actually likes your car and mad he doesnt have one and probably not close to having one. When you get something nice, people start to talk.
|
Off topic: But what if you defend yourself and run the black guy over ... That's murder so there will be so much sh!t that you are in
|
Run him over just a little?
|
I get chicks in my Z! wooohooo must be a girls car! Probably could have shot that guy in Texas and got away w/ it, or run him over.... sure insurance would cover it! lol
|
off topic: run over his legs
on topic: It's odd that some of you mention people calling it a chick car and giving you crap about it. Everyone that has said something about mine has been complimentary so far. |

Well, our car (me and my wife) is def a chick's car, she had fun this past weekend at Daytona showing dudes in GT3s and Z06s how to really drive a car on the track. (well, at least in the infield anyway, can't overcome a 100-200hp deficit on the back and front straights no matter how fast you are in the twisties). |
