guess i have joined the wrecked/accident club

on the way to a xmas party last night, had a 6pack of guiness black lager in the passenger seat when 2 deer run in front of the car. missed the bigger first one, hit the smaller second one. all my beers are OK despite becoming missles and ending up in the floor board unbroken. did have to wait 2hrs for ncshp to respond :ugh2:

ChrisSlicks 12-04-2011 08:09 AM

Ouch that sucks. Damage could have been much worse though, if you hit them mid jump they can come right through your windshield.

Did you at least claim the deer and strap it to the back of the Z?

gave it to the family that lived about 30' from where it landed, they came home from hunting empty handed so i figured they could use it.

just checked out the parts i'm gonna need via courtesyparts and up to a little over $2k for all the major parts being replaced, not including retainers/clips/fastener brackets. with labor and paint i see this being around $3.5k. crossing my fingers i don't need a radiator support but unable to open the hood...

ChrisSlicks 12-04-2011 08:28 AM

Post a daylight pick when you get a chance, sounds like there is more damage than was visible from the pick.

370zproject 12-04-2011 09:24 AM

ouch

EazyD 12-04-2011 09:24 AM

What is with all the yellow 370z getting fubar'd lately?

Rone 12-04-2011 09:40 AM

Did you have to snap the deer's neck to put it out of it's misery?

Skeeterbop 12-04-2011 09:54 AM

Obviously somebody who hates Yellow 370Zs has put out a bounty on them. Wonder what the deer that survived will be getting.
On a serious note, hopefully it isn't to bad and you are back on the road soon.

dude i feel your pain, i really do, i had one bolt out infront of my Z a month ago while i was coming down the hill on my way to my house (literally 15 seconds away) i just had to get down the hill go straight and turn left BAM! in driveway. oh no! saw this deer coming out of my neighors fence line. slowed down to 20 mph turned my high beams on and blared the horn thinking it would scare it the other way. ....no go. ... it scared it into a flat out run, straight into drivers side left front fender. gave it a good dent, and slid down the entire length of my car. and then stood there looking at it like WHAT? i was pi$$ed i got out and chased the deer after i saw the extent of the damage. ... $2,489 worth. they might have to replace the door idk .

a month later, it was just put in the shop. now im waiting.

Pharmboy333 12-04-2011 10:00 AM

Yeah man I'm in NC as well and it seems like every night I see at least 1 set of deer. I'm to the point where I've been driving my jeep at night just in case

Or someone that owns one is trying to drive up the value:icon17:

Sorry to hear op. hopefully you get her back to new shortly.

anthonyy 12-04-2011 11:16 AM

SERIOUSLY f*ck deer... I've hit a couple around my area... they usually just bounce off my front bumper unharmed

My bro's tank-of-a-Volvo was totaled when he hit a buck

UNKNOWN_370 12-04-2011 12:19 PM

If we weren't chopping down so much forest. Deer smashings would seriously be reduced. They'd have a home to live in. My motto is. Hit a deer? Eat it. It prevents the deers life from going to waste. I haven't hit a deer yet., but I do have a game processing kit in the car. :)

Fire 12-04-2011 12:39 PM

Apoc370z 12-04-2011 02:26 PM

Omg you killed bambi

IDZRVIT 12-04-2011 02:35 PM

Better a deer than a moose.

Thechidz 12-04-2011 02:37 PM

hunting season needs to be lengthened/broadened. it's ridiculous deer are out looking for food starving to death. lengthening deer season is a win/win helps the economy, reduces their suffering and helps our poor cars

Sorry to hear about your Z. At least you didn't get hurt. I just had venison sausage chili for supper. Mmmmmm. Deer may be dangerous on the road but they sure are tasty. :D

It was nice of you to tenderize the deer for the family.

I am glad you and the Guiness are OK.

Deer are a menace. I have been lucky and only hit two ever. One with zero damage. Sorry for you, but certainly not totaled.

My only deer-car experience was when I ran over an already dead one in a Triumph Spitfire back in 1978. It happened on 101 just north of Garberville at around 2 AM. I was driving back home form a Jethro Tull concert in Oakland.

USMCASA 12-05-2011 01:43 PM

i will post up more pics after work but stopped by the body shop on the way back from lunch and here's what is broken so far:

Hood
Front Bumper
Drivers Front Fender
Both hood hinges
Drivers head lamp destroyed
Passenger head lamp cracked housing
Drivers side fender skirt
Passenger side Apillar lower tabs broken preventing it from being secured
Radiator support
Drivers side air box
misc retainers/fasteners...

Not broken but will need paint due to scraping of adjacent pieces:
Drivers Door
Passenger front fender

Still awaiting my rental and full cost of the estimate

ProfessorDave 12-05-2011 02:33 PM

Wow, that's a lot of stuff :icon14: Hope it gets fixed soon and perfectly!

I'm more of a Guinness Draught fan myself.:yum:

USMCASA 12-05-2011 03:22 PM

$5625 estimate total, I'm sure it will climb higher as they tear into it...

Wow, looks like Bambi did a number on you. Any chance insurance will let you substitute some aftermarket stuff?

Alchemy 12-05-2011 03:30 PM

Sucks bro. I hit a deer back in August. My Z took it suprisingly well for the speed I was going. Just got it fixed a few weeks ago, finally. All you could really notice was a slight crease in my hood. Repair was almost 3k though. Good luck with your repair, glad you and your beer are ok.

ZCarMan 12-05-2011 03:35 PM

I had four deer bolt in front of me in my residential area just a few mornings ago. Luckily I was able to see them coming and slow down in time. Glad you were not injured though and you will drive the Z another day. It sucks beyond imagination I'm sure. Hang in there!

SkyZ 12-05-2011 06:51 PM

At least the Guinness was okay, it'll help with the damages.
