Thanks for the info, sounds interesting. I was thinking of signing up for the VA Army National Guard because it has so many great sounding perks (paid college, up to 20k in signing bonus although not sure how much of this is true) but not sure exactly what goes on in there as I really just started looking into it.

But I love my job. Not only have I aquired more than ample knowledge of mechanical engineering, electrical power generation, and distribution. I also have become a certified naval chemist and certified hydraulic technician. The Navy is great when it comes to education. The only thing limiting you.......is you.
Not all jobs have the same crappy environment that mine does. Thats just the one I can tell you about, because its what I do. College is 100% paid for, I have seen the entire globe, and I can rest assured that on the 1st and 15th of every month, Im getting paid. Not that its great pay, but its stable none the less. Its not all peaches though. You leave your family anywhere from 5-9 months at a time. My first three tours in the Persian Gulf were 9-6-7 months respectively. You miss your kids, wife, school plays, first words, Christmas, Thanksgiving, and anything else you can think of. Food doesnt always suck, but its not always great either. The military isnt for everyone thats for sure. But if you are seriously thinking about joining keep this in mind: Marines on the ground getting shot at.
Army....on the ground getting shot at.
Air Force...better quality of life, but advancement sucks.
Navy.....we float....blow you up from a long distance.....watch the
damage on T.V. without any return fire.
Regardless which you choose, go for an officer program. More money there and better retirement pay. Hope that helps.
Don't tell me you didn't see it coming.
