Thinking of getting back in a Z!!

Hi all

I am thinking of getting a 370z. I owned and loved my 350z until we parted ways in 2010. Since then I have been driving my Renaultsport Clio 200 and recently bought a mint 1990 Mk2 VW Golf GTI.

I always planned to keep the Clio for 2ish years, and a recent holiday in Florida, where both 350s and 370s are fairly common, has made me eager to get back into a z.

My only concern is the snow issue. I took my 350z out once in the snow and never again. I have winter tyres on the Clio, and even last winter, where the snow lay on the roads for 2 months straight here in Scotland, the Clio was a go anywhere beast.

That would leave 2 options if/when I replace the Clio with a 370: winter tyres form the z (would be best option but after a quick search it seems you need to fork out around £1k+ for winters) or get some winter tyres for the golf (very cheap as 15 inch alloys however the complete lack of safety kit may put me off driving in the ice/snow in the golf). I would never have worried about this as much but the last 2 winters have been pretty horrendous for commuters. Saying that, it's nearly December and I was golfing in short sleeves today, so maybe our winters might be back to normal?!

My other thought was to get an Audi S3, an amazing machine but lacks the flair and character of a z.

I will not be changing until the Spring so have time to think/research/persuade myself I MUST get another Z!

Thoughts all?

Thanks

Pedro

Well I probably was one of those Z's you saw riding around in FL, so you know what I think.

But then again, I don't know the first thing about dealing with... what is it again? I think you call it "snow"? :icon17:

Imagine if someone removed your tyres and you were driving around on the alloys only, that's probably on a par with driving the Z in the snow on summer tyres!

Have you driven a 370z or an S3 yet ? I'd say test-drive them first to help you make a decision.

In Colorado, U.S.A., it's manageable to drive rear-wheel-drive all year around. Of course, all-wheel-drive cars are extremely popular (Audi, Subaru) as well as SUV's (Infiniti FX, Porsche Cayenne, etc.)
If you must have a daily driver for all year in Scotland, there are better choices than a Z.

But, the option of fitting your Golf with snow tires and driving your 370z on better days sounds good.

I'm driving on winter tires this winter and live on about the same distance north as you, but in the US. Ground clearance will be the only issue. Then again, if there is more than 10 cm on the ground, why not just work from home :)

Yeah my friend has an S3 and I borrowed it for a month. Superb to drive, solves the winter problem but it's a bit dull to look at and lacks the drama and excitement of the Z (the 350 anyway).

I haven't driven the 370 yet but plan to. From what others report though it is similar to the 350 but just slightly better in almost every way?

I would love to work from home but I'm a dentist so I would struggle!
