Door handles.
Noticed yesterday that my driver's side door handle looks like it has a couple small scuffs/scrapes on it but it's rough. At first I thought it was water streaks but it isnt.
Is there a good polish or scratch remover that can be used on them? |
Noone? :shakes head:
|
I actually bought a metal polish for the door handles and tail pipes. My 350z door handles were horrible by the time I traded in. I haven't tried the polish yet. I will post when I do.

They are plated plastic so you should be able to polish them a bit, BUT I do not want to be the first one to try it.

Heck I only drive it to the gym and back and that's only 2 miles from my house. :shakes head: |
Definitely plastic.
Let us all know if you find something to clean them that takes the bad stuff off but doesn't take the finish off. |
You won't rub off the metal plating which should be fairly beefy. You can basically use anything for metal finishes as long as it doesn't remove material (i.e. sandpaper or grinding). Preserving the stock texture is going to be difficult though.
Maybe someone leaned against the car with riveted jeans? I've seen that leave some gnarly marks. |
Has anyone tried painting/anodizing the door handle (outside) black on a black car?
I have been thinking about it :) |
Didnt try the Scratch Off yet. Would it be a bad idea? Figured it's safe for the paint should be ok to use on the handles.
I doubt anyone leaned up against only the door in jeans seeing how noone is ever around it except myself and I dont wear jeans. The marks arnt really bad, in fact it probably isnt even noticable to those who dont know it's there. I somtimes cant see it even when I'm looking for it. |
Simichrome works wonders.

That said, I was just suggesting an explanation, but hey it's your ride. |
If the marks are "rough" like you say, then you most likely won't be able to restore it back to it's original form. Your best bet may be to just leave it be, as any kind of scratch remover or abrasive may make it worse.
