In Texas, we never think about getting snow tire set. That makes it really dangerous driving on snow (we DO get snow about a week!!!) I've seen some youtube videos

That makes it really dangerous driving on snow (we DO get snow about a week!!!) I've seen some youtube videos driving Z with fully equipped snow tires and he handled the car pretty damn good |

Snow tires do wonders for any car. If you've never had the chance to experience the difference between an all-season tire and snow tire on the snow it's quite impressive.

RWD with all-seasons is workable in most places with semi-cleared roads or less than 8" of snow on a car that doesn't sit 3" off the ground like the Z.
Personally I think the guy who says your priorities are jacked has it right. Get a decent daily driver and wait a bit. No way in hell I'd have the Z as my only car, especially in a 4-season part of the US. |

You might think about buying an older, cheaper rear wheel drive car at this stage.
It depends on the driver. Have you any experience with RWD ? I drove rear wheel drive year-around in Colorado with all-season tires. It took some finesse, but it was no problem as long as i understood the limits of traction/grip. Unlike your Civic Si, the weight of the engine will not be over the driven wheels for more traction. |

Bone stock Evo IX with a set of snow tires and you can be a full fledged rally driver with all wheel drive. If I lived in snow that would be my first choice.
You should be able to find one in relatively good condition. |

I'm pretty much in a similar situation. 21 and Z is my only car, even in the winter and the snow. Had a beater last winter, but don't have it anymore so I will have to either deal with the snow on my all season tires or just stay at home |

I actually graduate in a month, and start my new job in about a month and a half. Right now I just walk to class - living .1 miles from campus FTW
I won't be buying my new car until spring (or winter if I go with the Evo). I have about 10k in savings right now, my SI is worth about 15-16k as a trade-in, and the parts I could sell off of it would probably fetch 8-10k. Looking at my finances now, I could actually afford a fairly nice 'beater'. I might just look into a base impreza or something along those lines for winter. And yeah, I realize it's ridiculous for a 22-23 year old to be looking at a nismo 370z, but this is what happens when you stupidly in-debt yourself at 17 with a brand new Civic SI - you set stupidly high standards for yourself Thankfully, through a part-time job, awesome scholarship, and help from family, I'm graduating debt-free from college with a fair amount of assets, so it's time to splurge a bit. |
