Evo Magazine 370z vs Cayman S comparison 05.05.09

Here you go, fresh from my mailbox... Unfortunately I don't have my Z yet and I have yet to drive a Cayman so I can't really comment on the verdict.

I just spotted a brand new white Cayman (not S) in my parking lot yesterday. Looked like a chick driving it, based on the skinny effeminate arm hanging out the window. I was coming into the parking lot entrance right behind her, but she turned off elsewhere in the complex and I didn't follow. Given her driving style, I have a feeling we'll be running into each other around the neighborhood soon enough

JB1...thanks for the post of the Evo article. It was an interesting read. I'm not surprised by the author's conclusions, having cross shopped the 370z with the CS. The chasis balance of the Cayman is sublime, and not many cars (regardless of price) can match it. It seems as if that was the difference between the two cars. Still the 370z is an impressive car, and factoring in the price differential, I'm not regretting my decision to buy one. One thing about the Evo review, it seems as if these British publications focus more on subjective evaluations, while alot of the American mags add in some quantitative components (instrumented testing) to the mix. I'm looking forward to some further comparisons of the Cayman and the Z, particular Car and Drivers Lightning Lap evaluation. It will be interesting to see how the 2 stack up down at VIR.

My observation too. I think the Americans do it better. Figures do not lie.

I saw this article too, yesterday at Borders. I agree with your conclusion too. I drove a base leftover Cayman '08 which was being offered by my local dealer for $45k (with many additional options too). I really found it wonderful to drive, especially the steering and handling on our small winding CT roads. The power was less impressive, and I didn't feel that the brakes were wonderful either. Definitely not as strong what I remember of the Boxster S I drove a year ago.

When I test drove the Z, I covered the same roads. The Z definitely felt more visceral and I thought it was more fun, but clearly not as balanced as the Cayman. The Porsche has long service intervals, but when you get there it's like visiting the proctologist... Bend over... Here it comes.... You KNOW it's going to hurt!!!

So I bought the Z and haven't looked back. I LOVE this car!!

It might be the "Titanium" color that is offered outside the States in certain market's ............ looks similar to PG but slightly darker and a little more "purple-ish" in some lighting conditions.......... I like it, wish it was offered here.
